Rocky Lee '79 March 14, 2023 5:19 PM updated: March 14, 2023 5:25 PM

Rocky Duane Lee
September 22, 1956 - April 26, 2022

Rocky D. Lee, 65, a much beloved husband, father, papa, and brother passed away peacefully on April 26, 2022, with his family by his side. He faced his battle with cancer in the same determined manner that he had approached all of life’s challenges. Throughout all of the Doctor’s appointments, treatments, the good days and the bad, he continued to live his life both graciously and courageously to the very end.

Rocky was born in San Angelo, Texas in 1956 to Truman and Billie Lee. Growing up in Breckenridge, Texas he was active in Boy Scouts and competed in Track, Golf, and Football. Rocky was a member of the Corps of Cadets while attending Texas A&M and received both a B.S. and Master’s degree in Agricultural Economics. It was the summer of ’79 while working between college semesters that Rocky met his wife, Terri. Together they formed a lasting bond that served as the center of a loving family and a commitment to achieving each other’s dreams.

Rocky served as a Captain in the United States Army and later as a Company Commander in the Texas Army National Guard. Rocky had always dreamed of starting a business and after just a few years of working as a Real Estate Appraiser he started his own Appraisal business, R.D. Lee & Associates.

In 2001 Rocky returned to working for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers as a Review Appraiser and was ultimately promoted to Division Chief of Real Estate. He led the Fort Worth District in the managing of real estate concerns for various military bases and installations as well as medical centers serving both active duty personnel and veterans. It was his honor to serve as the Chief of Real Estate and he retired on July 30, 2021, after serving the nation and military for over 20 years.

Apart from work, a desire to mentor others and a love of the outdoors led him to scouting where he volunteered as the Scoutmaster of Troop 554 in Crowley, Texas. Rocky, an Eagle Scout himself, wanted to share his experience with his three sons and other members of the Troop. The sun rising through the snow covered Davis Mountains, the clear blue border waters of Minnesota, and the views of Texas from Guadalupe Peak stood out as some of his fondest memories shared in scouting.

Rocky also had a passion for history and could talk for hours about various periods of Texas and American history. He was a devoted husband, a great dad, and a loving papa who enjoyed spending as much time as he could with his family and grandkids.

Rocky was preceded in death by his parents, Truman and Billie Lee.

Rocky is survived by his wife of 41 years, Terri; sons, Dusty, Houston and Robert; daughter-in-law, Kelly; three grandchildren, Riley, Brooklyn and Ryder Green; and three brothers, Mike, Barney and Bob.
