Whit Matthews
September 8, 1964 – February 3, 2023
William Webster Matthews, 58, passed away on Friday, the 3rd of February 2023, in his home in Little Elm, Texas. He was born in Dallas, Texas on the 8th of September 1964.
Whit grew up in Beaumont, Texas and graduated from West Brook High School in 1983. He then attended Texas A&M University where in 1987 he earned his Bachelor of Science in Construction Management. He was a member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity. He was also an Eagle Scout and Order of the Arrow member.
Whit was a safety engineer for over thirty-five years and held multiple certifications. He was passionate about his work and was grateful to represent industry leaders including Martin K. Eby, Zachary Construction, Titan America, Granite Construction, and his final stint with Alston Construction. He worked on projects across the country with many improving our daily lives. Whit became a wealth of knowledge which he generously shared with fellow employees and anyone with interest.
Whit was an avid golfer, making many friends and finding golfing buddies everywhere he played. He was an excellent home chef, priding himself on his grilling skills. Whit was a passionate fan of Aggie football and his alma mater. Few things could draw out unabashed love like his nieces and French bulldogs. Whit cherished his relationships with many friends and family.
Whit is predeceased by his father, Bill Matthews. He is survived by his mother, Mary Prentiss Matthews of Beaumont, Texas, his brother, Ross Matthews and his wife, Rebecca of Houston, Texas along with their children, Ellen and Olivia.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family at one o’clock in the afternoon on Saturday, the 11th of February, in the Jasek Chapel of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston where the funeral service is to commence at two o’clock.
Immediately following, all are invited to greet the family during a reception to be held in the adjacent grand foyer.
The family will gather for a private interment at Forest Park Memorial Park in Beaumont at a later time.
