A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Robert “Bobby” Speyrer, DVM on Monday, December 5, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. at Our Lady Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Opelousas, La. The Very Reverend Monsignor Keith J. DeRouen will conduct the Mass. Rite of Committal will follow at Bellevue Memorial Park.

It is with deep sorrow that we regretfully announce the passing of Robert “Bobby” Speyrer, DVM, age, 83, on Friday, December 2, 2022, at his residence.

Bobby enrolled into the veterinarian curriculum at Texas A & M and received his doctorate degree in Veterinary Medicine in 1963 and opened up his own vet clinic, Speyrer Animal Clinic in Opelousas. Bobby truly loved being a veterinarian and will be remembered for his compassion, caring, dedication, and kindness. His love for animals was obvious to all who knew him.

He served his country proudly in the United States Army and was the Captain of the Vet Corp. Bobby was a proud member of the Acadiana Veterinary Medical Association and the Louisiana Veterinary Medical Association. Robert enjoyed spending time with his family and spending time with his grandchildren. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Claire DeRousselle Speyrer; his daughters, Lisa Speyrer Briggs; Jennifer Speyrer Darby; his brother, Gabe Speyrer, Jr. and wife, Anne and his sisters, Celina Hardy and husband, Rixie and Julia Hesser and husband, Gary. He is also survived by his six grandchildren, Hayden Scott Speyrer, Nicholas John Darby, Tyler David Briggs, Savannah Jane Speyrer, Seth Robert Briggs and Lane Mitchell Darby.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Gabriel Speyrer, Sr. and Celina Rivette Speyrer; his son, Scott Owen Speyrer and his brothers, Dr. Allen D. Speyrer and Charles Speyrer.

Visiting hours will be observed in Skip Montet Memorial Chapel at Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home in Opelousas on Sunday, December 4, 2022, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with a Rosary being prayed at 6:00 p.m. by Sister Mary Dunphry. The funeral home will reopen on Monday, December 5, 2022, from 8:00 a.m. until 1:30 p.m.

Pallbearers will be Gabe Speyrer, Hayden Scott Speyrer, Nicholas John Darby, Tyler David Briggs, Seth Robert Briggs and Lane Mitchell Darby. Honorary pallbearers will be Mitch Darby, Robbie Soileau and Johnny Cary.
