Alton F. “Whitey” Fischer
December 17, 1938 - October 27, 2022

On Thursday, October 27, 2022, Alton F. "Whitey" Fischer, proud Texas Aggie, passed away at age 83.

Born to Freddy and Irma Fischer in New Braunfels, Alton graduated from Texas A&M University with a degree in mathematics and joined the U.S. Air Force as a communications officer. During his 20-year Air Force career, he was present for atomic bomb testing in the Marshall Islands, served in the Republic of Vietnam, and reached the rank of Major.

He spent a second career with the Texas Department of Health & Human Services in San Antonio, toward the end of which he met his much-beloved wife Lynda, who predeceased him in 2013.

Alton and Lynda spent their retirement years traveling the world, gardening, volunteering, hosting wonderful "National Night Out" events at their home in Northwest San Antonio, and never missing a local Oktoberfest or Volksmarch.

He is survived by his son Freddy Fischer, and will be missed by all including his stepchildren Lisa and John Stipo, Tami and Johnny Luckenbach, Rod and Wendy Griffith, and Doug Griffith.

A burial service with military honors will be held at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery on Tuesday, November 8, 2022 at 9:30am. You may leave a message or memory on the Tribute Wall at www.missionparks.com
