James Hamilton Hayes, Jr.
September 18, 1959 - October 29, 2022

James Hamilton Hayes, Jr., age 63, passed away on Saturday, October 29, 2022, in San Antonio, Texas. He was born on September 18, 1959, in Fort Bragg, North Carolina. Jim was the Director of Talent Management at Zachry Group and was responsible for overseeing talent planning, performance management, internal candidate identification and senior leadership assessment and development. Prior to joining Zachry, Jim was the Director of Succession Planning for AT&T.

Prior to AT&T, he held key positions involving human resources leadership in management development and employee training in a variety of industries, including Fuddruckers, Souper Salad, Mobil Oil, and Harland Clarke. Jim held a BBA in Marketing and MBA in Management from Texas A&M University.

He served as an adjunct professor of graduate studies in Human Resources Development for Webster University at Ft. Sam Houston, teaching Career Management, Organizational Development and Leadership courses.

He and his wife, Maggie, were actively involved in Dalmatian Rescue, an organization dedicated to rescuing abused and abandoned animals. He is also the author of a humor book entitled “The Joys of Unemployment”.

An accomplished endurance athlete, he competed in over 125 races in triathlons, road running, masters’ swimming, and century bike rides. He was a five-time finisher of the IRONMAN Triathlon and completed seven marathons.

James is survived by his wife, Maggie Hayes; parents, Jim Sr. and Betty Hayes; sister, Beth Hayes; brother-n-law and sister-n-law, Joe and Annie Lutton; and nephews Nick Lutton, Rob Lutton, Jackson Wright, Jordan Lutton and Joey Lutton.

MEMORIAL SERVICE: SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 6, 2022, 2:00 PM PORTER LORING MORTUARY NORTH, 2102 NORTH LOOP 1604 EAST

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Dalmatian Rescue of Colorado or the 12th Man Foundation.
