Ammar M. Abdullah

June 10, 1975 - September 10, 2022

Dr. Ammar Abdullah, a May, 2021 graduate of the Medical Sciences Ph.D. program in the School of Medicine at Texas A&M University in the Department of Microbial Pathogenesis and Immunology, passed away on Saturday, September 10, 2022 in Baghdad, Iraq.

Ammar was a Senior Lecturer at the University of Baghdad, where he received his B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Veterinary Medicine before being admitted to the Ph.D. program here in the School of Medicine.

He is remembered by his wife, three daughters and one son, who currently live in Baghdad.

He carried out his graduate work in Dr. Jeffrey Cirillo’s laboratory where all members past and present remember him being very kind, gentle and caring toward everyone as well as being in good spirits whenever working in the lab. His graduate work resulted in construction of human macrophage CRISPR/Cas9 mutants and RNA-Seq studies that provided insight into susceptibility/resistance pathways for tuberculosis, resulting in two manuscripts describing the work and he had planned to continue his tuberculosis-related studies in Baghdad. His passing was unexpected for everyone and he will be sorely missed by all those that knew him.
