Howard C. Allison
January 28, 1932 - October 16, 2021

Howard Allison, 89, passed away on Saturday, October 16, 2021, in Wichita Falls.

Visitation will be held at Lunn’s Colonial Funeral Home in Wichita Falls on Friday, October 22, from 6:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. A graveside ceremony with full Military Honors will be held at the family plot in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Denton, Texas, on Saturday, October 23, at 2:00 p.m.

Howard was born January 28, 1932, in San Saba, Texas to Benjamin Rush Allison and Gladys Mae (Karnes) Allison. When Howard was eight days old, he lost his mother to scarlet fever. His oldest brother, Benjamin Rush Allison, Jr., also died at age three of scarlet fever a few days earlier. Howard was deeply loved and raised by his father, aunts and uncles who lived in the San Antonio area and greatly influenced his life, and later also by his stepmother. Subsequently, Howard was preceded in death by his father, Benjamin Rush Allison, and his stepmother, Marie Creech Allison.

Howard graduated from Hot Wells High School in San Antonio and from Texas A&M University with a BBA degree in Accounting in 1953. He was a four-year member of the Corps of Cadets and was commissioned in the U.S. Air Force, serving at Sheppard Air Force Base from 1954-1956. In 1992, he retired as a Major form the U.S. Air Force Reserve.

He married Carolyn Frances Vaughn on August 3, 1958, at the Little Chapel-in-the-Woods, on the campus of her alma mater, Texas Woman’s University, Denton, Texas.

Mr. Allison was owner of Howard Allison Insurance Agency for thirty-five years and joined the Barnard Insurance Group in 1995.

Howard was a long-time member of the First United Methodist Church of Wichita Falls and a former president of the Win-Some Sunday School Class. He was a former member of the church Administrative Board, the Pastor-Parish Relations Committee, and served as chairman of the Usher Committee.

Howard was also a firm believer of service to the community. He joined the University Kiwanis Club in 1958 and maintained his membership into senior status. Flipping pancakes at the annual pancake festival was a highlight of his year. In 2002, he received the George F Hixon Fellowship #28334, which is the highest individual recognition in Kiwanis International. Howard also served as a former president of Wichita Falls Independent Insurance Agents, Wichita Falls Knife and Fork Club, sang bass with the North Texas Men’s Chorus, and served on the Wichita Falls Planning Board, the City Traffic Commission, and the Salvation Army Board.

Survivors include Carolyn, his wife of 63 years; their son, Brian Allison and his wife Jill Allison of Austin; their daughter, Lynn Allison Bollish and her husband Dr. Michael Bollish of Dallas; their grandchildren Collins Allison of New York City, Kirstin Allison Warren of Dallas, and Brandon Bollish of Dallas. Also surviving is his sister-in-law, Nelda Shipley of Arlington, Texas.
