December 12, 1938 - September 6, 2021

Dan Alford Grohn passed away peacefully in his sleep on September 6, 2021 in Waco, Texas.

Dan was born in Sour Lake, Texas on December 12, 1938 to Thomas W. Grohn and Ellen Gay Grohn. Dan was the youngest of three children, and was preceded in death by both parents, and his brother, Thomas. He is survived by his sister, Betty Grohn, of Sour Lake.

Dan graduated from Sour Lake High School in 1957. He attended and graduated from Texas A&M as a proud Aggie in 1961. Dan accepted a commission into the United States Air Force, and served our country for 20 years, retiring as a Lt. Colonel. Dan married the love of his life, Rita Joyce Grohn prior to graduating college, and they were together until her passing in May 2021.

Following retirement, Dan worked in the civil sector, retiring from the City of Wichita in 2002. Dan and Rita then returned to Texas, where they remained until they met their Eternal Father in heaven.

Dan and Rita are survived by three sons, James William Grohn, John Thomas Grohn, and Dan Mark Grohn. Their only daughter, Crista Marie, preceded them in death in 1973. In addition to the three sons, Dan and Rita leave 10 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.

The rosary and visitation with full military honors will be at Rosewood Funeral Home in Humble, Texas on Thursday, September 9, 2021 from 4-7pm. The funeral mass will be held at St. Martha’s Catholic Church in Porter, Texas on September 10, 2021 at 11am. The burial will be at Proctor Cemetery in Proctor, Texas on September 11, 2021 at 1pm.

The family requests no flowers be sent. Monetary donations in lieu of flowers may be sent to St. Martha’s Catholic Church in Porter, Texas.
