Eugene "Gene" Sublett Broussard
May 22, 1924 - August 24, 2021

Eugene Sublett Broussard, 97, died peacefully on August 24, 2021 in Houston, Texas. Gene and his late wife, Sue Evelyn, had been lifelong residents of Groves, Texas until 2017. Gene is preceded in death by his beloved wife and his parents. He is survived by his three children, Patrick Broussard (Marian), Cindy Balderach (David) and Reese Palmer (Perry).

Gene was born on May 22, 1924, in Port Arthur, Texas to Felix and Almena Sublett Broussard. He attended elementary, junior high and high school in Port Arthur. Gene graduated from Texas A&M University, Class of 1946. He was a proud Aggie!

Gene was most proud of serving his country in World War II. He was a captain in the U.S. Army and served in Fontainbleau, France. He was also in Wales and he sat in on some of the Nuremberg War Trials. The flag on his coffin, given to him by Congresswoman Lizzie Fletcher, is to honor his service and celebrate him as a veteran.

Gene and Sue raised their family in Groves, Texas. They would have been married 71 years this past June 30th. He worked many years for Standard Brass. Gene attended Lamar University and received a degree in accounting. He owned a successful tax business, which he conducted out of their home. Gene and Sue were active members of the Presbyterian Church of the Covenant and in later years, the United Methodist Temple. For many years, Gene was a devoted volunteer to the Meals on Wheels Program in Port Arthur, delivering meals to those who were homebound.

Gene was known as “Ganga” to his 9 grandchildren. Frani Denenburg (David), John Balderach (Jessica), Patrick Broussard (Mary), Vincent Broussard, Sallie Wilbanks (Matt), Hunter Palmer, Molly Balderach, Laura Palmer, and Kathryn Palmer. He was also a great-grandfather to Giorgiana and Oliver Denenburg. He will be remembered by all of them with great love and affection!

Graveside services will be held at 12:00 Noon on Saturday, August 28, 2021 in Greenlawn Memorial Park with Reverend Kurt Ervin officiating.

The family requests that donations to honor Gene’s memory be given to Arriverderci ALD, 1324 South Boulevard, Houston, Texas, 77006. This charity is important to the Broussard Family. Donations made also be made to Meals on Wheels for Jefferson and Hardin Counties, 4590 Concord, Beaumont, Texas, 77703.
