December 27, 1928 - August 17, 2021

Funeral services for Ben Madden, 92, of Marquez, Texas will be held 11:00 A.M. Thursday, August 26, 2021 at Marquez Baptist Church, Marquez, Texas. Billy Bob Evans and Wayne Ramsey will officiate the service. Interment will follow in Marquez Cemetery, Marquez, Texas. The Madden family will receive friends Wednesday, August 25 from 4:30 P.M. to 6:30 P.M. at the church in Marquez.

Ben Allen Madden, Jr. was born December 27, 1928 in Marquez, Texas to Ben Allen Madden, Sr. and Gertrude (Allen) Madden. He served his country in the U.S. Air Force and spent three years in Japan after World War II. When he returned, he attended Texas A&M University and received a Bachelor of Science degree in History. He married Tommy Joe Moon while he was in college and the couple had their only child, Vicki, while he was a senior at Texas A&M. The young family lived in Crockett and Beaumont before moving to Houston and living there for most of their lives. Ben worked for CIT Finance, GFC Finance and Champion Paper, where he worked as a laboratory supervisor. When he retired from Champion Paper, he and Tommy Joe moved back to Marquez where he began his final favorite career as a rancher. He loved Marquez and enjoyed helping his community in any way he could. He was a long time member of the Masons and held several different leadership positions throughout the years. He was also a member and life long supporter of the Shriners and served as a deacon at Marquez Baptist Church.

Ben's daughter and his grandsons followed in his footsteps and all graduated from Texas A&M, as well. Ben's grandsons, both born in Houston, spent a lot of quality time with their grandpa and learned how to ranch, manage and care for cattle through his expert direction. The family also attended many exciting and memorable Aggie football games over the years.

Ben passed away in Memorial Hermann in Houston on August 17, 2021. He was preceded in death by both parents; wife, Tommy Joe Madden; wife, Mable Hines Cash Madden; sister, Doris Easterling, brother, John Thomas Madden, niece, Bunny Easterling and nephews, Matthew Jaegar and Allen Easterling. Surviving relatives include daughters, Vicki (Madden) Huddleston '76 of Missouri City and Mable Jeanette Duke and husband, Jerry of Marquez; sons, Dennis Roy Hines and wife, Becky of Venetia and Carl Lee Cash of Bryan; grandsons, Dr. David Huddleston '03 of Kaelakekua, HI, Dr. Stephen Huddleston '05 and wife, Dr. Renee Minirth, of Memphis, TN, Milo Wilson, Jeremy Wilson, Monica Bundick, Joshua Duke, Travis Duke and Jerrod Hines; great-grandchildren, Theodore and Sophia Huddleston of Memphis, TN; sisters-in-law, Jane Ivy and Doug Jaegar, brother-in-law Harold Jaegar; nieces, Joan Beasley and husband, Paul, Pat Bryant, Denna Sessions and husband, David, Kay Scarborough, Dolores Ann Smith and husband, Eldon and Danna Lynn Reader and nephews, Michael Holmes and wife Kathy, Greg and Mona Madden, Randy Madden, John Downs and wife, Melody and Bill Downs and wife, Renee.

Ben's family is very grateful for the love and kindness his caregivers gave him the last years of his life. the angels who helped him are Robbie Watson, Carla Sheppard, Evelyn Young and Sherry and Katelyn Chaney.

Arrangements are under the direction of Walters Funeral Home, Centerville, Texas.
