Jane Wechsler Holeywell
July 19, 1949 - July 29, 2021
On Thursday, July 29, Jane Holeywell, loving wife and mother of two children, died at the age of 72.
Jane was born on July 19, 1949 in New York City to Howard and Charlotte (Freedman) Wechsler. She attended Vassar College and the University of Texas at Austin and received her BS degree from Texas A&M University in 1971. In 1969 she married Roger Holeywell, to whom she was married for nearly 52 years. They raised two children, a daughter, Kathryn, and a son, Ryan.
Jane's passion was her family. She worked hard to provide a loving, good spirited, and safe home so her family could thrive. She was known for participating in every school project, sports team, and scouting activity that her kids were involved in. Jane was a tremendous help getting the family moved and resettled when her husband's oil industry job required relocating. She lived in Corpus Christi, Shreveport, Dallas twice, and three different times in Houston.
Jane had a wide range of interests and was an avid reader her entire life. There was nothing she liked better than having the time to read the Sunday New York Times.
Jane was an expert genealogist and spent years meticulously tracing her eastern European roots. She also loved the textile arts and was accomplished in needlepoint and quilt making. At various times, she supported the family by working as a science teacher, shipping and receiving manager for a computer manufacturer, retail salesperson, and veterinarian assistant. Jane was a life-long dog lover and had a particular love for all of her basset hounds.
Jane was preceded in death by her father, Howard, and her mother, Charlotte. She is survived by her husband, Roger, children, Kathryn and Ryan, daughter-in-law Blayre, and granddaughter Emersyn.
Jane was a remarkable woman, who will be deeply missed. An online memorial service will be held on September 12.
