Donald Cobey Altwein
January 11, 1933 - August 22, 2021

Don Altwein passed away on August 22, 2021 at the age of 88. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Virginia to whom he was married for 59 years, and by his great-grandson Luke Kent Hamilton. Don is survived by his three daughters Sharon Gambulos, Linda Milligan and Sandra Skrepnek, five grandchildren Dr. Rachel Hamilton, Elizabeth Massman, James Gambulos, Stephanie Massman and Katherine Skrepnek and one great-grandson Jack Cobey Hamilton. Don was born in San Antonio of parents Grace and Cobey Altwein and has one sister Loretta Huddleston, who lives in San Antonio.

Don graduated from Texas A & M with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He was a Lieutenant in the US Army, stationed in Ft. Huachuca, Arizona when he married Virginia Pechacek, also of San Antonio. After completing his stint in the Army, they moved to Dallas, where he worked for LTV and Texas Instruments. Don received his master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from SMU and was registered as a Professional Engineer and a certified Project Management Professional. After 24 years at Texas Instruments, he worked as a self-employed project manager and consultant for the past 40 years.

As a member of the Private Waters Fishing Club, Don enjoyed bass fishing at many of the lakes available to the club.

Don was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church. A memorial service will be held at Christ the King Church (8017 Preston Road) on August 31 at 11 a.m.
