James Cooper Mitcham
March 21, 1930 ~ July 19, 2021 (age 91)
James Cooper Mitcham passed away July 19, 2021.
He was born in Buckholts, Texas to Marvin and Bessie Mitcham. After graduating from Yoe High School in Cameron, Texas, Jim attended Texas A&M University earning a BBA degree in 1952. He was then commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army. He served in the Korean Conflict and was awarded a number of medals for his service before his honorable discharge.
After his U.S. Army career, Jim was employed with Motors Insurance Corporation and retired from MIC-GMAC in 1991 after 37 years of service. Throughout his career, he advanced from adjusting and sales to holding various supervisory and management positions in a number of states and in their executive offices in New York. After retirement, he continued working as a Catastrophe Adjuster for GMAC.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Pamela; daughters Debbie, Jan (Chris), and Jamey '03 (Ty); grandsons Andrew '08 (Erica '08), Jonathan (Christine), and Matthew; great-grandchildren Isabella, Jordan, Graham, and Brooklyn; and sister Dolores (Derl). He is also survived by many nephews, nieces, grandnieces, and grandnephews. His parents, sister Frances, brother Don L., and son-in-law Keith predeceased him.
Jim loved going to the horse races, fishing, golfing, crossword puzzles, and was an avid sports fan, especially following his Texas Aggie teams wherever he lived. He was a generous, dependable, hardworking, and sincere man who never asked for more than “a few kind words” in return. His work ethic, kindness, and generosity remain an example to all who knew him. He is deeply missed and will forever be remembered as a beloved husband, father, brother, granddad, uncle, and friend.
