Thomas Andrew Moore
September 21, 1938 - July 6, 2021
Thomas Andrew Moore, a longtime resident of New Orleans, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 6, 2021 at the age of 82.
Loving father of John David Moore (Lisa), Jeffrey Scott Moore (Becky), and Steven Forrest Moore (partner Angela Brito), Tom is also survived by the mother of his children, Judith Faye (Rust) Moore, one granddaughter, Sydney Katherine Moore, cousins Marwick Todesco, David Moore, and Jan Moore, and countless friends all over the country. He was preceded in death by his parents Forrest Whatley Moore and Edna Lucille Shaw.
Born on September 21, 1938 in Galveston, Texas, Tom grew up in Texas City and graduated from Texas City High School. He attended his beloved Texas A&M University, where he was proudly a member of the Corps of Cadets and graduated in the Class of 1960. He lived in Houston and Kansas City before moving to New Orleans in the early 1970’s to raise his family.
After retiring from a long career in sales, Tom eventually moved to the French Quarter, where he could be found telling stories at Harry’s Corner Bar, dining at Galatoire’s with Jim Vanderhoeven, watching Texas A&M sports at any place with a TV, and laughing with dear friends Cindy Willard and Ronnie Maravich every chance he got. Tom was the kind of guy who could make a two minute walk through the Quarter take an hour if he stopped just to say hi to everyone he knew along the way.
In addition to his family and all things Texas A&M, Tom’s passions included talking to old friends, making new ones, and enjoying delicious New Orleans food from Mandina’s, Mona Lisa, Muriel’s, Antoine’s, Stanley, and Verti Marte, just to name a few. He never passed up an opportunity for good Mexican food and was a firm believer in the three-hour lunch.
Tom often said, “When I die, I want people to know that I lived a good life. I loved my boys, I loved A&M, and I had fun.”
At Tom’s request, there will not be a funeral service. A celebration of Tom’s life for family and friends is currently being planned for a later date.
