Blake Williams, Jr.
February 11, 1927 - June 28, 2021

Born in San Antonio, Texas to Blake Williams, Sr. and Helen Dunlap Williams, Blake Williams, Jr. joined his heavenly Father on June 28, 2021, at age 94. His loved ones were by his side. Blake was a man of honesty and integrity in every endeavor he undertook during his long and productive life. He was a man who pursued his dreams and ambitions with passion and fortitude.

Blake started first grade in Weslaco, Texas, but returned to San Antonio, with his parents, at age seven. He attended Woodlawn Elementary School where, in the fifth grade, he met Charlotte Ann Nelson. As the family legend goes, he declared at that time that he would marry her someday. An Eagle Scout, he carried the values of the scout pledge with him at all times. Blake was a proud graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School where he developed many friendships that have continued throughout the years.

Blake enlisted in the United States Navy during World War II at age 17, with the consent of his parents. He was stationed first at San Diego, California and then aboard the escort carrier U.S.S. Nassau (CVE16) in the Western Pacific. After his honorable discharge at the end of the war, Blake enrolled in Texas A&M University, Class of 1950, on the GI Bill and became a loyal Aggie.

Charlotte and Blake were married on August 27, 1948, at Laurel Heights Methodist Church in San Antonio and they began their life of love that would last 58 years, until her passing in 2007. Together, they raised three children who have always realized how blessed they have been to have had such remarkable parents.

Blake Williams established his career in the seed business in the 1950s and became the owner of Douglass King Seed Co. Treating people with kindness and respect earned him the trust and admiration of his peers. His word was his bond in his business dealings as he maintained his commitment to treat others as he would like to be treated. In 1966, he served as President of the Texas Seed Trade Association and in 1995 was recognized with the Association’s Honorary Membership for his contributions and service to the Texas Seed Industry.

Farming and ranching in South Texas were both avocation and vocation for Blake. He delighted in surveying his fields, planning what to produce next and managing his cattle. He was named Outstanding Absentee Conservation Rancher in 1976.Blake was pleased and proud to have his son, Dean, follow in his footsteps as President of Douglass King Seed Co.

Blake was a life-long learner with an inquisitive mind. He was generous, loyal, successful, patient and forgiving. He had a quick wit and enjoyed sharing a good laugh. He was the most loving son, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend anyone could hope to have.

This Christian gentleman was predeceased by his parents, his beloved wife, Charlotte, and his brother-in-law, Stan McIlvaine. He is survived by his sister, Claire Williams McIlvaine; daughters, Jane Williams Steves and her husband Marshall Steves, Jr., Janet Williams Putman and her husband Vick Putman, son, Dean Williams '77 and his wife Nancy Burkholder Williams; cherished grandchildren, Lissa Steves Allen and her husband Paul Allen, Marshall Steves III and his wife Mandy Beck Steves, Regan Williams, Hannah Williams; great-grandchildren, Charlotte Allen, Penelope Allen, Marshall Steves IV, Austin Padayao; and special long-time friend and companion, Emily Grooms.
