Father Ryan Andrew Stawaisz
August 18, 1989 - June 21, 2021

Father Ryan Stawaisz passed from this life on Monday, June 21, 2021. He was known as “Father” to many, but to his family he was a son, brother, and soon to be uncle. Though his earthly work and suffering have passed, his impact on those he touched lives on.

Fr. Ryan was born in Aberdeen, Scotland in August 1989. Although not Scottish by blood, he developed a love for the Scottish outdoors and customs, including the bagpipes. He enjoyed spending time with his family, playing sports, hunting and serving at Mass. He was an Eagle Scout and an avid outdoorsman. Even though Fr. Ryan moved frequently during his life, he developed lasting friendships through his interests and selfless personality.

Fr. Ryan attended Texas A&M University and studied Petroleum Engineering as a member of the Fightin’ Texas Aggie Class of 2011. During his junior year, he was diagnosed with cancer and spent months fighting the disease; winning the initial battle. During Fr. Ryan’s senior year, he participated in the Aggie Awakening Retreat where he heard the call to consider the priesthood.

After graduation, Fr. Ryan set aside his job offers to discern at Saint Joseph’s Seminary in Covington, LA, where he earned his Philosophy degree. He continued his studies at Saint Mary’s Seminary in Houston, TX where he completed his Masters in Divinity STB. He served his pastoral year at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church and his diaconate year at St. Faustina Catholic Church. As he was fin-ishing seminary, the cancer returned. Fr. Ryan was ordained a priest on June 1, 2019. He started his priestly ministry as a Parochial Vicar at Prince of Peace Catholic Church where he was beloved by his community. Fr. Ryan was passionate about increasing vocational awareness and lived this through his support of the Concert for Life and the Priests vs. Seminarians basketball game. As he continued his fight with cancer, Fr. Ryan was always recognized by his cheerful attitude and radiant smile.

Fr. Ryan’s priesthood has been characterized by his spirituality, courage, and sincerity. Those who have heard his homilies, in person or through streaming, have felt the wisdom which comes from a life lived in the service of God and others. Many saw this in his preaching and in his celebration of the Sacraments, and in the volunteering of his time. He was always present for anyone in their time of need.

Fr. Ryan, you are no longer suffering. You are at peace in the Eternal Kingdom where we will one day hope to see you again with our Lord Jesus.

Fr. Ryan was preceded in death by his grandparents, John and Gertrude Stawaisz, Carolyn and Sam Hicks and his Aunt Stacie Morales and Uncle Ron Stawaisz.

He is survived by his parents, Ray and Susan Stawaisz, Brother Ross and Gaby Stawaisz, Aunt Rita Jeanne Sta-waisz, Uncle Stephen, Linda, Hayden and Jansen Hicks.
