October 9, 1940 — May 29, 2021

Gary Lee Santerre passed away May 29, 2021, in Colorado Springs, after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease.

Gary was born October 9, 1940, in Denton, Texas, to Henry Lee Santerre and Bertie Belle Brown Santerre. After graduation from Denton High School in 1958, he went to Texas A&M University (Civil Engineering, Class of 1962). After a tour in the Army, he went back to Texas A&M and earned a Master’s Degree in Transportation Engineering (Class of 1966).

Gary went to work for the City of Fort Worth as Director of Transportation and Public Works for 28 years. He retired to the Texas Hill Country. In 2011, he moved to Colorado Springs, a lifelong dream.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Tommie Thompson Santerre, two daughters: Teresa Santerre (Andrew) Hobby and Vikki (Preston) Schlachter and three grandchildren: Spencer Dean (Amanda Lee) Gourley, Rachel (A.J. Zilinsky) Schlachter and Nick Schlachter.

A viewing for Gary will be held 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm Wednesday June 2, 2021 at Evergreen Funeral Home and a graveside service at Pikes Peak National Cemetery 10:00 am Thursday June 3, 2021.
