Marcus G. Loader, LTC USA (Ret)
December 18, 1930 - February 29, 2020
Marcus Loader passed away peacefully accompanied by his family in Marble Falls, TX on February 29, 2020. He was born on December 18, 1930, to Oscar and Viola Loader in Iredell, Texas. He is preceded in death by his parents, Bettye Ann Loader (wife), and Byron Loader (brother). He is survived by his two sons, Garon Loader '80 (Dallas) and Kerry '83 (Ana) Loader (Marble Falls), his sister-in-law Wilma Loader (Lampasas), his brother-in-law Grady (Lyda) Clark (Branson, MS), two grandchildren, Lauren and Ryan Loader (Marble Falls), and nephews Michael and David Loader.
After graduating from Iredell High School in 1948, he attended Tarleton State University and transferred to Texas A&M University. He graduated in 1953 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture Range and Forestry and was a member of the Army Corps of Cadets. Upon graduation, he entered the Army as a 2nd Lt. in the 1st Armored Division at Ft. Hood. In April 1954 he was stationed in Seoul Korea as the base logistics officer. He returned from Korea to the Army reserves and retired a of Lt. Colonel of Civil Affairs in 1990.
Marcus started his career with the Agriculture Department in the Soil Conservation Service (SCS) in 1954. He met his wife Bettye Ann while working in San Angelo, TX and was married in 1955. Marcus had many career moves throughout Texas, and then out of state to Portland, Oregon and Washington, D.C. He returned to Texas in 1973 as the Assistant State Director of the SCS based in Temple, TX. Marcus and family made their home on the ranch in Lampasas. He received numerous national and state awards and retired from the SCS in 1987.
Marcus was a very gentle and kind man that deeply cared for his immediate and extended family and all of his friends. He loved and enjoyed his grandchildren and celebrated with them as they grew up. He deeply loved the ranch and the day to day life on the ranch.
He loved to travel and took many trips that included Hawaii, Alaska, Europe, and Mexico. He was also a foodie and deeply enjoyed trying new restaurants.
Marcus enjoyed spending time at their South Padre Island home with his family. They spent at least two weeks of each month on the island. He enjoyed the ocean and the beach, and all of the coastal wildlife in the area. He enjoyed attending South Padre Island Baptist church.
Graveside funeral is Friday March 6, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at Groves Cemetery with military honors.
