Dr. Daniel Lee Simpson
April 13, 1959 - October 22, 2020

Dr. Daniel Lee Simpson, DVM, passed from this life on October 22, 2020, after a brave, four-year battle with cancer. He was born on April 13, 1959 in Houston, Texas and his family lived in Pasadena, where he grew up and attended school; Sam Rayburn High School Class of 1977. As is typical for most young boys, studying for classes was not a top priority for Dan until he discovered he liked working with animals. At that point he focused on academics, made nothing but A’s, and was promptly accepted into the Veterinary Medicine program at Texas A&M University. He graduated in 1983 and began his career as a veterinarian, initially in the Pasadena area, but ultimately in the 1960/Champions and Magnolia areas.

Dan met fellow veterinarian Kathleen Martin, DVM '93 of Spring, Tx in May 1991 at his clinic and they married June 26, 1993 after her graduation from Texas A&M. They have three wonderful sons: Noah, Kyle and Cole. His family meant everything to him and he battled through treatment at MD Anderson to be with them as long as it was possible. He was preceded in death by his father, Welton C Simpson, and by his father-in-law, C. Patrick Martin. He is survived by his wife, Kathy and sons Noah, Kyle and Cole, mother, Betty, mother-in-law, Lillian, brothers, Dub (Sharon) and Bob (Jan), brother-in-law, Patrick, sister-in-law, Patricia, nieces Lindsey, Lacey (Tyler), nephews Cameron, Colin, Braden, and great-nephew, Henry.

Dan and Kathy lived and worked in the Magnolia area for years. Dr. Dan Simpson owned and operated FM 1960 Animal Hospital on Cutten Road and Kathy still operates the Lone Star Animal Hospital on FM 1488 in Magnolia. They have served many people, and especially their pets for years in this capacity. Dan was also very active in youth baseball activities in the Magnolia community for much of his adult life, specifically the Magnolia Raptors, and serving on the Board of the Magnolia Baseball Association. In this volunteer work he helped teach and mentor countless young boys and made numerous close friends in the community. He was respected and admired by all. Dan and Kathy loved to travel and their favorite destination was Kauai, where they dreamed of living someday.

Dan was a life-long Christian and member of the White Oak Church of

Christ for the last few years of his life. He was a wonderful husband, father, brother, uncle and friend. We love and miss you Dan.

The family would like to thank Dr. Logothetus and the staff at MD Anderson for their care and concern during the past four years. In lieu of flowers please contribute to the Montgomery County Animal Shelter or the American Cancer Society.
