Paul Maxwell Culp
September 18, 1932 - February 19, 2021
Retired Lampasas businessman/rancher Paul Maxwell Culp died Feb. 19, 2021 at the age of 89.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m Feb. 23 at Sneed Funeral Chapel, with an opportunity to visit with the family after the service.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Feb. 24 at Buena Vista Cemetery in Timpson, Texas.
Culp was born on Sept. 18, 1931 in Leachville, Arkansas, to Bruce Culp and Rebecca Wallace Culp. He was one of eight children.
He graduated from Green County High School in Paragould, Arkansas; Arkansas State College in Jonesboro; and received his master's degree in education at Texas A&M University.
He served in the United States Air Force from 1951- 1954.
While stationed at Barksdale Air Force Base in Shreveport, Louisiana, he met Wilma Pearl Hairgrove in a Sunday School class. They married on July 5, 1953, and their marriage lasted 65 years.
Culp taught agricultural sciences at Axtell High School and Temple High School in Texas, and Cameron College in Lawton, Oklahoma. He worked for Allied Chemical in Omaha, Nebraska, as a sales manager for feed and fertilizer.
Culp was the first chairman of the Liquid Feed Committee of the American Feed Manufacturers Association. He founded and operated Paul's Fertilizer and later Agro-Tech Service in Lampasas. He enjoyed agri-business and serving local farmers and ranchers.
The Culps bought Buena Vista Ranch in Lampasas and loved raising calves and producing a hay crop.
He also loved quail hunting, and raising, training, reading and talking about bird dogs.
Culp was active in the Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and Sunday School teacher. He also enjoyed volunteering with mission organizations such as Volunteer Christian Builders and Helping Hands.
He was preceded in death by his wife; sisters Bernice Culp Lomax, Rebecca Culp Harkey and Mabel Culp Miller; and brothers Bruce Culp Jr., and Don Culp.
Culp is survived by his two children, David Wayne Culp (Martha) and Linda Culp Floerke (Benton); four grandchildren, Rachel Culp Aguilar (Timm), Rebekah Culp Lopez, Sarah Floerke Gouak (Steve) and August James Floerke (Brooke); six greatgrandchildren, Josh Ely, Naomi Lopez, Lillian Culp, Madeline Gouak, Hattie Gouak and June Floerke; sister, Wanda Culp Prince; brother, Harold Culp; and numerous nieces and nephews.
