March 20, 1953 - January 29, 2021
Michael “Mike” Wright Taylor, 67, of Highland Village, Texas passed away January 29, 2021 at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital in Flower Mound.
Mike was born March 20, 1953 in Frankfurt, Germany to Margarete Hack, and adopted at age 2 by parents John and Zelma Taylor of Robstown, TX, where he grew up and graduated from Banquete High School. In 1974 Mike received a degree in Petroleum Engineering from Texas A&M University, and was a member of the Corps of Cadets. He went on to start a prolific and successful career in the oil and gas industry, from working for companies like Exxon and Comstock, to mostly being self-employed or partnering in his own companies. Most recently he was a Principal of Lone Star Oil & Gas, based out of Dallas.
Mike spent the past 40 years building a life in Dallas, Texas. He is survived by: daughter Lauren Taylor '06 and grandson Tristan; daughter Michelle Taylor '08 and fiancé Kole Weber; son Creed Taylor and wife Addie; their mother Cheryl Taylor; brother Lance Taylor and wife Jane; sister Monika Primeau; cousins and several nieces and nephews. Mike was predeceased by his birth mother Margarete Hack, his parents John Milam and Zelma Taylor, and his sister Zanda Boone.
Mike was known for sharing his many interests with his family and friends, mainly in music, Aggie football, and all things Texas. His first piece of furniture ever bought was a baby grand piano, and he performed in a blues band when he could. He was also a generous man, giving to several charities throughout his life. Notably, the Cheryl and Michael W. Taylor ’74 Scholarship to the Department of Engineering at Texas A&M University, and for cancer research at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston.
Funeral services for Mike Taylor will be held on Thursday, February 4, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at Flower Mound Family Funeral Home in Flower Mound, TX. Burial will follow at the Roselawn Memorial Park in Denton, TX. The family requests that people make donations supporting military veterans or to MD Anderson Cancer Center in lieu of sending flowers.
