David Burton Taylor
1944 - 2021

David Burton Taylor was born on August 12, 1944, in Columbus, Mississippi. He passed away on Feb. 3, 2021. David attended elementary school in Pierce, Texas, and secondary school in Wharton, TX. David was a proud graduate of Texas A & M University class of 1967. He graduated with a B.S. degree in Industrial Distribution. Upon graduation, David was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the United States Army. He served in Vietnam from 1969-1970 and continued to serve in the Army Reserves until 1977. Using the G.I. Bill David enrolled in Rutgers University where he earned an MBA. David’s career included working for Square D and Peterbilt Motors as a Human Resource Manager.

David loved sailing and was a member of the Venture Sailing Club of Dallas and the Rockport Yacht Club. He enjoyed many bareboat charter trips to the BVI on a variety of sailboats. The two trips that he loved the most were the ones with his children and grandchildren—seeing the islands through their eyes. He loved playing the guitar and working with his hands on a variety of projects. He was always busy!

David was preceded in death by his mother, Lois Taylor, his father, Burton Angell and his adoptive father, Robert Taylor.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Jennie Marquess Taylor; and sons, Michael Taylor '91 (Jennifer '91) and Bryan Taylor (Lisa Maestas). His three grandsons, Owen, William, and Miles Taylor; brought such fun into his life. He is also survived by his siblings Betsy Payson (Sandy), Nancy Matteson (Paul) and Robert M. Taylor (Amy) as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

A small, private funeral service will be held next week. A celebration of David’s life will be held when it is safe to gather.

In lieu of flowers, donations in David’s name may be made to the Youth Sailing Program at the Rockport Yacht Club to fund a scholarship for sailing lessons. Rockport Yacht Club, 722 Navigation Circle, Rockport, TX 78382
