John Heusman
November 12, 1936 - July 24, 2020

John Heusman was born in Osage, Iowa on Thursday, November 12, 1936, one of four children to Lester and Jeannette (Howe) Heusman. He passed from this life on Friday, July 24, 2020 at the age of 83.

John grew up in Mitchell, Iowa and attended schools there graduating from Mitchell High School in 1954. After graduation, he attended Iowa State University in Ames from 1954-1956 when he answered the call to the service. He served in active duty in the United States Army from 1956-1959 and then in the Army Reserves while attending Texas A & M University from 1960-1961, where he received his bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Education.

He taught school as a Biology teacher in Temple, Texas for four years before taking a job as a Consultant with Texas Credit Union League in Houston and Dallas, where he worked for 33 years. He organized over 50 Credit Unions throughout Texas during his career. After retirement, in his spare time, John repaired pipe organs. John married Letha Wanda Wood on January 24, 1987. After several years in Texas, having completing their careers, they enjoyed many years of retirement in Oklahoma. They were active square dancers for many of those years. They share six children between them. John was a lifelong Lutheran and was confirmed on April 2, 1950 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Osage, Iowa. He and Letha have been members of Lutheran churches throughout their lives but most recently members of Fellowship Lutheran Church in Tulsa. He was also a member of the American Legion, volunteering many hours with them.

John had a quick wit and a dry sense of humor that was always enjoyed at family gatherings. He was an accomplished field archer and enjoyed photography and traveling in a fifth wheel trailer always looking for a great stream to fly fish in.

John is survived by:

Son, Curtis Heusman '79
Daughter, Cynthia Thompson
Stepdaughters, Jacqui Giudice and Regina Sheridan
Stepson, Scott Bond
Brother, Kenneth Heusman
Sisters, Lucille Diekman and Mary Pastore
9 Grandchildren and 8 Great Grandchildren
He was preceded in death by his parents: Lester and Jeannette Heusman and a daughter, Christine Heusman
