Mass of Christian Burial for Samuel Jahn, 89, Lawrence, KS, will be held at 10:00 am Wednesday, December 30, 2020 at St. John’s the Evangelist Catholic Church in Lawrence. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Please be aware that due to COVID-19 and safety precautions, we are asking his loved ones to please respect and comply with social distancing and must wear a mask.

Samuel passed away Tuesday, December 22, 2020 at Lawrence Memorial Hospital in Lawrence, KS.

Samuel was born August 26, 1931 in Moulton, TX the son of Rudolf and Hattie (Targac) Jahn. Samuel earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Texas A & M University and became a life-long Aggie. He served in The Air Force in the Air Technical Intelligence unit until he was transferred to the 5th Air Force Headquarters in Nagoya, Japan. This is where he met the love of his life, Yoshie (Mori) Kanamori. They married on March 19, 1957 in Shiner, Texas and enjoyed a love affair that lasted for 56 years. Samuel was a senior engineer for DuPont in Tecumseh, Kansas; a job he was proud of and dedicated to. St. John the Evangelist Church in Lawrence, Kansas was an important part of his life. He was a devout catholic and volunteered many hours of his craftsmanship toward the church.

Sam and Mori have four children, nine grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. Son, Andrew and wife Sharon Jahn with children Noah, Joshua and Kioko Jahn residing in Fairview, Texas. Son, Kenneth Jahn residing in Lawrence. Daughter, Deborah Dillon with children Samuel and Cody Dillon residing in Lawrence. Daughter, Clare and husband Jamie Galloway with children Corey, Sean-Ross and Jalen Galloway. Great-granddaughter, Maiya Lynn Galloway, daughter of Sean-Ross Galloway and Stefani Boehm, and his extended family in TX that were especially important to him.

Family members who have preceded Samuel in death are his parents, wife, Mori, brothers, James Jahn and Rudolf Jahn Jr., granddaughter, Hannah Marie Galloway.

A Lying-in state will be held 10:00 am ~ 7:00 pm, Tuesday, December 29, 2020 at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence, KS with a Rosary to follow at 7:00 pm.

With social distancing in place and masks being required, family and friends are welcome to attend in person or the service will be live-streamed at sjevangelist.com/live

Memorial contributions may be made in his name to St. John The Evangelist Catholic Church and may be sent in care of Warren-McElwain, 120 W. 13th street, Lawrence, KS 66044
