August 15, 1937 - December 18, 2020
Fort Worth, Texas - Edward Arthur Wueste, 83, died peacefully on Dec. 18, 2020, surrounded by family.
A resident of Fort Worth, Texas for the last 25 years, he was born and raised in the Texas border town of Eagle Pass to Edward and Georgia Wueste. He proudly attended Texas A&M University and received a degree in civil engineering in 1959. He was in the Corps of Cadets and subsequently served as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army.
Ed met and fell in love with Sheryl Henry in 1965. Legend has it that Ed proposed on their first date. They married on June 3, 1967 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Sheryl and Ed had two wonderful sons, Ted and Eric.
Ed's career specialty was highway transportation engineering, first with the Federal Highway Administration and then the Texas Department of Transportation. Ed was promoted to management and leadership roles, as his love for people and relationship was a God-given and shared talent. Ed's love for people was powerfully evident in the way he loved his family and friends and connected with others. Ed's wit, charm and authenticity made him a great storyteller and conversationalist to everyone he met. Everyone was a friend to chat with, no such thing as a stranger. Ed had an ability to connect with others of all ages, backgrounds, and walks of life. Ed excelled in mentoring others through his wisdom, modeling and life example.
Throughout his life, Ed was active in athletics - earning a scholarship to play college basketball (which he turned down), playing tennis, pickle ball, running and working out. Ed loved sports of all kinds and especially anything related to "his" Texas Aggies.
He was a lifelong learner. In addition to English, he spoke Spanish and any attempts at other languages always included a Spanish accent. Always up for an adventure, he lived in nine different states and two countries.
Over the years, he received several commendations and awards. Ed volunteered and gave of his time and energy through service and involvement in the church (Christ Chapel Bible Church Intercessory Prayer Group & Band of Brothers Men's Bible Study) and with the United Way, Rotary, and various non-profit ministries and outreaches. Ed's leadership included serving as a Church Elder and Rotary Club President, to name a few.
Ed knew Jesus Christ as His savior and sought to walk with Him and serve Him each day. Ed had deep confidence that He would walk into the fullness of eternal life because of God's grace in His life. He was a deeply loved husband, father, grandfather, mentor, and friend. He was disciplined, diligent, faithful, intelligent (he was offered a master's degree from Yale that he turned down), funny, corny, sensitive and caring. He always had a smile on his face and his optimistic view of life was contagious.
In the years after Sheryl's passing, Ed met Janice Carter Boswell in April 2008 and was smitten. Ed pursued Janice until she said "yes" and they were married on April 15, 2009. They had a very active marriage with a large number of friends and social groups, including Roundelay, Windsor and their Supper Club. They enjoyed worldwide experiences with the Traveling Aggies and other close friends. Ed and Janice were very involved with their children and their 12 beautiful grandchildren. Every week and weekend was filled with sports and other activities.
Ed's primary love language was "teasing" and if he ever teased you, you knew you were loved. Ed will be deeply missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Georgia; his brother, Jim; and his first wife, Sheryl (married 1967-2006; mother of his sons).
Ed is survived by his beloved wife, Janice (married in 2009); his sons, Ted (Jenifer) and Eric (Roxanne); his step-daughters, Shelley Karpman (Robert), Amber Lightbound (Chris), and Laura Pettit (Hunt); and his grandchildren, Trey and Claire (Ted), Max, Kat, and Remy (Eric), Emma, Annabelle, and Mamie (Shelley), Drake, Arabella, and Jonty (Amber) and Greer (Laura); and nieces and nephews.
A private family graveside memorial service will be held at Greenwood Memorial Park.
