Jerry Michael Morgan
1939 - 2020

Jerry Michael Morgan

Wichita Falls - Jerry Michael Morgan of Wichita Falls passed away on October 18, 2020 at the age of 81. Jerry led a full life beginning January 14, 1939 in Wichita Falls. The youngest of three children to Guy Wesley Morgan and Vernon Page (Ikard) Morgan, he attended school in Iowa Park enjoying FFA and football. Jerry went on to attend Texas A&M University and graduated with a BS in mechanical engineering. Proudly, he was a part of the Corps of Cadets and served as a guidon. Being an Aggie was a source of joy and pride throughout his life and made choosing gifts a little bit easier on his kids.

After graduating, Jerry married Vicki Lester Barton of Houston on February 10, 1962 (div. 1980) and they settled in Wichita Falls. Vicki and Jerry had two children, Melanie Dawn (Morgan) Epp and Michael David Morgan. After beginning his career at Texas Electric, he soon began working as a civil engineer for Sheppard Air Force Base. Ultimately, he became the Chief of Civil Engineering and managed multi-million dollar projects at the growing base with his military cohorts. Jerry built the family's dream home almost single-handedly - twice. The second time after the tornado of 1979. While providing for his family and working as an engineer, Jerry gave a great deal of time to community service.

Jerry was an active member of the Joseph A Kemp Masonic Lodge for many years, was a Master Mason and served as Worshipful Master. He was active on the Camp Fire Board of Directors long after his daughter grew up. Jerry served on the Hotter Than Hell Committee from its outset - even riding his bike in the race. At differing times in his life, Jerry attended First Baptist Church and Faith Baptist Church.

Peggy Bishop, a successful realtor in Wichita Falls, and Jerry were married (1984 - 1997). He was 'Jer Bear' to Peggy's daughters Sherri and Teresa Burns. Their blended family enjoyed vacations and big Christmases together.

A rancher, Jerry raised cattle and cared for his portion of his family's ancestral land just outside of Wichita Falls and in Archer County, TX. He never shied away from hard work and enjoyed being outside working with his hands.

In 2016, Jerry had a stroke and later lived in an apartment at Rolling Meadows. He was in excruciating pain and those he leaves behind are relieved that he is finally at peace without the limitations of his earthly body.

He is preceded in death by his parents, older brother Dr. Page Wesley Morgan, first wife Vicki King, second wife Peggy Morgan, step-daughters Sherri (Gossett) Christie and Teresa (Harwell) Marten. He is survived by his sister Mary Buckley of Ft. Myers, Florida; his daughter Melanie Epp and grandson Josey Epp; his son Michael, wife Lori and granddaughter Natalie Morgan; as well as his special friend Bunny Cutaiare of Wisconsin.

Because of the Covid-19 virus, Jerry's memorial service has been postponed. Memorials can be sent to the charity of your choice, Camp Fire, or the Texas A&M Foundation of the Corp of Cadets.
