Dink Carson
SEPTEMBER 11, 1933 – JULY 5, 2020


Dink Carson was born September 11, 1933 in Payne Springs, Texas to William Earl Carson and Ruby Rhodes Carson. Named Enoch Jerome after his grandfather, the nickname Dink was mistakenly put on his birth certificate and never corrected. Dink passed away July 5, 2020 after a long illness. A graduate of Eustace High School, Dink was an outstanding athlete, served as the team quarterback, and lettered in all sports. He played ball at Henderson County Jr College (TVCC). After serving his country in the army during the Korean conflict and stationed for 6 months in Korea, he was honorably discharged. In 1958, he received a degree from Texas A & M University. His professional career began with the USDA followed with poultry plant management positions with Ralston Purina, Texas Poultry, and Pilgrim’s Pride. Retiring to Payne Springs, he and son Roland (Kit) opened General Machine & Tool in 1982. He also continued the family business of raising cattle until his 2012 stroke. In 1979, he married Geraldine Primrose Carson and they built a home on Cedar Creek Lake on the old family farm. Cookouts became a tradition on July 4th and family birthdays where he and his sons enjoyed playing guitars and singing country and bluegrass favorites. He knew only the first verse to a million songs. Known for his witty sense of humor, Dink never met a stranger. Proud of his heritage, he started a family tradition when the grandsons were small of the yearly fall trip to Salado to attend the Highland Games and Gathering of Scottish clans. However, the family was never able to get him in a kilt. Around Payne Springs he was a familiar sight driving his old pick-up truck with his two dogs in the back. Dink served on numerous civic boards beginning with the Eustace Independent School district where he was board president for 12 years. He served as a member of the Cedar Creek Hospital board, Henderson County Education board, Henderson County Farm Bureau, Payne Springs Community Center, Payne Springs Cemetery Association, and the Payne Springs Water board. Predeceased by his parents and only sister, Barbara Joan Brown, he is survived by his wife Geraldine Carson, son Roland (Kit) Carson, grandson Matthew Carson and wife Miranda Vahle and their sons Alexander Carson and Collyn Vahle ; son Morgan Carson and wife Beatrice and their son Wade Carson. Also, in-laws Jerry Primrose and Nelda Blazier, nieces Elizabeth Parks , Aimee Richardson, Cristy and Nikki Blazier, nephews Curtis and Barry Brown, Chris, Terry, and Buddy Primrose, best friends Denny and Debbie Dillon, girl Friday Martha Murrell, favorite uncle to many great nieces and nephews; numerous cousins, and many friends. Dink’s family would like to thank Cedar Lake Nursing Home for the wonderful care he received during the last four months.
