James “Lance” Mobley

December 23, 1966 – August 9, 2020

Lance Mobley, 53, of Angleton, Texas, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loved ones, after a two-year battle with brain cancer.

Lance was born in Freeport, Texas at Community Hospital, to James E and Sharolyn Mobley.

He is survived by his wife of 16 years, Kelly Mobley; his three kids, Ryan Mobley, Macy Mobley and Samantha Mobley; parents, Jim and Shary Mobley; sister, Lori Mobley; and numerous family members.

Lance was a 1985 graduate of Brazoswood High School where he received multiple accolades including Most Spirited and Most Representative. Lance was vice president of the Student Council; played basketball and was the high school Pirate mascot his senior year.

Following high school, Lance attended Texas A&M University where he graduated in 1989 with a Bachelor’s of Science in Industrial Distribution. Lance’s very successful career spanned 30 years where he worked for various companies including: Brown and Root, US Contractors, Southwest Industrial/Refractory, DOW Chemical, PCL, Tellepsen and lastly Wood Group.

He had many hobbies, some of which included numerous outdoor activities including fishing, some of which was along Oyster Creek where he grew up and was known as a legend among friends for hunting gar with his compound bow; he loved playing golf with his friends and actively participating with his kids in water sports along the San Bernard River. Lance’s greatest passion was spending time with friends and family hunting. His annual Elk hunt in Colorado was one of his greatest pleasures. The one common thing that his friends and family recall fondly about Lance was his passion for cooking. Lance was a master of outdoor grilling and many of his family gatherings for holidays and special occasions revolved around his expertise with BBQ.

Lance also spent several years volunteering on the Brazoria County Go Texan Rodeo committee, a branch of the Houston Livestock and Rodeo, that focuses on scholarships for the youth of Brazoria County.

Lance was diagnosed with Stage IV Glioblastoma in May 2018. Part of his heroic journey included several clinical trials alongside the medical team of Dr David Baskin and Dr Ivo Tremont at Methodist Hospital in Houston. The family would like to thank them for their unwavering dedication to Lance’s care and their finding a cure for this cancer.

Additionally, the family would like to recognize the A-Med Hospice team for the compassion and excellent care they provided. His nurses, Brandy, Michelle, Nikki and Sarah as well as Brenda his CNA offered professional care and compassion to not only Lance but the entire family as well during this most difficult time.

Many who knew Lance will remember him as a man who loved spending time and traveling with his wife and kids; he was a lover of family and friends and leader in our community.

Family and Friends are invited to attend a memorial service from 3:00 p.m. — 5:00 p.m. followed by a Celebration of Life gathering from 5:30 p.m. — 9:00 p.m. on Friday, September 11, 2020 at The Oaks at Oak Plantation located at 19706 FM 521 Rd, Rosharon, Texas 77583.
