Thursday, September 16th, 1937 - Sunday, June 7th, 2020

Robert “Bob” E. Boykin, died unexpectedly on Sunday, June 7, 2020 at 82 years of age. He was born in Sweetwater, Texas to Vernon K. and Myrtle Jewel (Whisenant) Boykin on Thursday, September 16, 1937. Bob graduated from Texas A&M, where he was a member of the Corp of Cadets and Texas Aggie Band. He was also a member of the Association of Former Students of Texas A&M and a Century Club member. He was a member of the National Association of Flight Instructors as well as the Texas Society of Professional Engineers. Bob began his work career as an aeronautical engineer at NASA in Houston, then General Dynamics in Fort Worth. After his work ended there, he then began work as a Corporate Pilot for Freese and Nichols Consulting Engineers in Fort Worth. He spent the last 26 years of his career as a Transportation Engineer for TxDOT in Mesquite, Texas. He was also a longtime member of Christ Church in Irving. Bob was a generous, gentle soul, with a great mind and will be deeply missed by all. He is preceded in death by his parents and brother Glenn Boykin. Left to cherish his memory are ex-wife Gayle Boykin of North Richland Hills, TX; daughter Debra Benge and husband Allen of Poynor, TX; son Bryan Boykin of Bedford, TX; granddaughter Stephanie Pearson and husband Kyle of Henderson, TN; great granddaughter Magnolia Pearson of Henderson, TN; sister in law Patricia Boykin of Hillsboro, TX as well as numerous extended family and friends. A public graveside service will be held 3:00pm on Monday, June 15, 2020 @ Bluebonnet Hills Cemetery, 5747 Bluebonnet Dr. in Colleyville. For those unable to attend, a link to view a video of the service will be available Tuesday, June 16, 2020. The family requests memorial donations to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or to Christ’s Haven Home for Children by clicking either of the links below.
