Roll Call Tribute

Robert "Bob" Rich '45 May 20, 2020 8:54 AM updated: May 20, 2020 9:04 AM

Col. Robert E. Rich (Bob), Class of 1945, passed away on May 19, 2020, in San Antonio, TX, at the age of 97. He was predeceased by his wife, Mary Lou, who passed on February 27, 2019.

He is survived by daughter, Robin Rodriguez, of Bastrop, TX; son, Robert K. Rich, of Shell Knob, MO; granddaughters Lezli Gregg (A&M Class of 1997), Cheyenne Rodriguez (A&M Class of 2018) and Sienna Rodriguez; and great grandson, Trevor Gregg.

Col. Rich studied Petroleum Engineering at Texas A&M, until his class was deployed overseas during WWII. After returning from his tour of duty, he received his Bachelor's and Master's Degrees from Syracuse University. He proudly wore the Aggie ring as part of a unique class that put their education on hold to defend our country. He served in the US Army Corps of Engineers for more than 25 years, during WWII, the Korean Conflict and VietNam. After retiring in the early 1970's, he spent the next decade teaching at Trident Technical College, The College of Charleston and The Citadel. After his retirement, he lived in Charleston, SC, Jacksonville, FL, and settled in San Antonio, TX, in 1987, where he lived until his death.

Bob loved to play golf, work on his garden, and sharing a beer with friends and family. His granddaughters were his greatest joy, and he loved watching them excel academically and athletically.
