J. Louis “Corky” Frank, of Sugar Land, TX, formerly of Bay City, TX, passed away on April 16, 2020, at the age of 83.
Born in Santa Barbara, CA, raised in Bay City, TX, Corky traveled and lived in many places but always considered himself a Texan at heart. He was a proud Texas A&M Aggie where he graduated in 1958 with a degree in Petroleum Engineering. He started work at The
Ohio Oil Company (which later became Marathon Oil Company) as a roustabout on a summer scholarship. He worked for Marathon Oil Company and Marathon Petroleum for 45 years retiring as President of Marathon Petroleum Company and Executive Vice President of Marathon
Oil Company. Having started as a field engineer, he held assignments in reservoir engineering and exploration evaluation groups prior to moving up the management ladder. He held various positions managing oil and gas drilling and production in Alaska, the
Gulf Coast, Houston, Los Angeles, Indonesia, Ireland, London, the North Sea (UK), and Findlay, Ohio. As an executive and leader, he was committed to his work and doing the best job possible. He cared about the work and he cared about the people. He successfully
managed many business initiatives and projects innovating and breaking technological and industry barriers, bringing many of them in successfully “on time and under budget.” Throughout his career, he brought his expertise to both upstream and downstream operations
in the oil and gas industry. He sat on many corporate, industry, non-profit, and academic boards through the years. Corky was passionate about mentoring and enabling project management, business, and negotiation skills in younger engineers and funded a chair
for Engineering Project Management at the the Dwight D. Look School of Engineering at Texas A&M University to that end.
With all of his accomplishments, Corky was also a man of honor and integrity who had a strong internal compass for knowing, and doing, the right things in life and business--for his family, himself, and others. He was loved and respected by many. He had a truly
generous, kind-hearted spirit and lived a life with a cheerful song in his heart.
Corky was surrounded by his family and friends. He is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife of 63 years, Bobbie Jean, and their two children, Jim and Debbie, and their families. He will be remembered by many.
