Josef Edward Plume
APRIL 14, 1926 – JANUARY 6, 2020
On Monday, January 6, 2020 Josef Edward Plume, who was 93, was called home to be with our Lord, Jesus Christ. A combat veteran of World War II, “Ed” lived a life of service to his church, family, friends and country.
Ed was born to Carrie and Henry Plume, the daughter and son of frontiersmen, in Sweet Home, Texas on April 14, 1926. First attending a one room schoolhouse, and after losing his father at age 14, Ed graduated high school and worked his way through Texas A&M College. His college years were interrupted in 1944, when Ed served in the 69th Division of the U.S. Army as an infantry rifleman landing in Le Havre, France and marching through Belgium, then on to Berlin during the Battle of the Bulge. After finishing his degree in Chemical Engineering in 1948 at Texas A&M, Ed married Marjorie Nell and provided four children with truths, virtues, self-discipline, and a Christian foundation upon which to grow. Every Saturday evening found Ed preparing his lessons for the Sunday school class he faithfully taught. Throughout his life he touched many. Ed’s career with The Dow Chemical Company saw him progress through management and finally to major international projects where he transferred to Canada, completing many projects in Red Deer and Ft. Saskatchewan, Alberta. Ed re-married in Red Deer and provided love and guidance to his wife, Areta and five children. Areta and Ed enjoyed many life experiences in work and retirement in Colorado, Texas, and the Calgary area where they ultimately retired.
Ed loved adventure, the mountains, and the frontier, and enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, hiking, camping, and his family. He loved to read everything, and whether science, history, biblical, or novel, he had the remarkable ability to absorb and recall unbounded knowledge which he would freely share - seeming to have an answer to any question, and like the model father, having the ability to fix anything. Ed’s gift was a calm approachable, yet decisive, demeanor.
Ed was proceeded in death by his wife, Areta, his sister and two brothers, and his grandson, Kieran. He is survived by nine loving children, their husbands and wives, numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren who will all sorely miss his kindness, his compassionate spirit, and his love.
A Funeral Service will be held at Bonavista Baptist Church, (1507 Acadia Dr SE), on Monday, January 13, 2020 at 10:30 a.m.
