Obituary for John Glenn Basinger

John Glenn Basinger, 84, of Dallas, Texas died on February 2, 2020. John was born June 24, 1935, to Wendell Navelle Basinger and Emma Johnson Basinger in Konawa, Oklahoma. He graduated from Sabine High School in 1953 and obtained his Bachelor of Petroleum Engineering in 1958 from Texas A&M College. At Texas A&M he was a member of the Corps of Cadets and became the Commander of the Engineer Battalion. He was a proud member of the Sul Ross Society at Texas A&M. He married his junior high school sweetheart Joan Lanelle Betts on August 24, 1957 in Gregg County, Texas. John and Joan were married over 54 years and only Joan’s death separated them. He was a Petroleum Engineer for over 40 years with Mobil Corporation and at the end of his career became a Chief Engineer for Mobil. While at Mobil, John and his family lived in Louisiana, Virginia, Texas, England, Scotland, Indonesia, and Nigeria. While living in Scotland, John and Joan helped establish the International Baptist Church in Aberdeen Scotland. Faith was very important to John and both he and his wife were very active in The Heights Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon, on numerous committees, and as a Sunday School teacher to senior adults. John was very active in the Spanish Ministry at The Heights and helped establish The Heights in Spanish. He had recently been attending Parkway Hills Baptist Church with his family. He served in the United States Army as a Lieutenant in the Engineer Branch. He leaves behind: son Kyle Basinger and daughter-in-love Marijo, son Clark and daughter-in-love Beth, son Mark and daughter-in-love Renata; seven grandchildren, Aaron and wife Rachel, Brooke and husband Bryan, Lauren and husband James, Jacob and wife Sarah, Cathryn and husband Andrew, Zachary, Chase, and grandson by marriage Colton and his wife Jenine; nine great-grandchildren, Regan, Jax, Owen, Jenson, Hudson, Logan, Tommy, Reese, and Hadley. He was predeceased by his parents and his wife Joan.
The family of John Glenn Basinger will receive visitors on Thursday, February 6, 2020 from 6:00 - 8:00 pm at Restland Funeral Home. His funeral service will follow at 10:00 am on Friday, February 7, 2020 at The Heights Church in Richardson, Texas.
