Harold Eikenhorst
January 20, 1926 - December 31, 2019

Harold William Eikenhorst, 93, passed away December 31, 2019 in Brenham Texas.

Visitation will be held from 6-7:30 p.m. On Friday January 3, 2020 at Memorial Oaks Chapel.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, January 4, 2020, at Zion Lutheran Church in Zionsville, with Pastor Katrina Walther officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Harold William Eikenhorst was born January 20, 1926 near Zionsville in Washington County, Texas to parents Fred H. Eikenhorst and Louise Enax Eikenhorst. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and a longtime member of Zion Lutheran Church.

He attended Brenham schools and joined the First Calvary Division of the US Army and served in the south pacific on Luzon Island and in the Army of Occupation in Japan from late 1944-46. On October 27, 1948 he married Clara Joyce Kettler at Zion Lutheran Church. He attended Blinn College and Texas A&M graduating with a degree in Agricultural Education. He taught ag at Midway and Brenham High Schools. Later he taught science and math at Brenham High School. He served as the Brenham Elementary School principal, assistant superintendent and superintendent of Brenham Independent School District until his retirement in 1974. After his retirement he sold real estate and worked as a rancher.

Survivors include sons and daughter-in-laws Dr. Ron R. and Mary Eikenhorst and Dr. Bill and Karen Eikenhorst. Grandchildren Chad (Alicia) Eikenhorst, Bret (Dana) Eikenhorst, Colin Eikenhorst, Megan Eikenhorst, Blake (Aurbrey) Eikenhorst, Blane (Lindsay) Eikenhorst, Brenn (S/O Jenna Dahl) Eikenhorst. Great grandchildren Charlotte, Colton, Clara, Emerys, Theodore, Friedrich, Owen Eikenhorst and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his spouse Clara Joyce and brothers and sisters Fred and Raymond Eikenhorst, Clifford Stratton, Della Rachei, Jimmy Kettler, and Alice Bernice Lehrmann.

Serving as pallbearers will be Beto Hernandez, Ken Prigge, Reece Wawarosky, Chad Eikenhorst, Michael Bentke, Reid Bentke, Shane Bentke, Waldo Holle. Honorary pallbearers are Donnie Reynolds, Mrs. Joe Reed, Lois Holle, Nina Runge, Gloria Stoddard, Allison Bentke, Jose Hernandez, Christian Hernandez, Sharon Prigge and Marci Raley. Special thanks to all the caregivers from Brenham Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Argent Court Assisted Living Center and Compassionate Care/Amedisis Hospice.
