GLENN ROSS ASHLEY

Glenn Ross Ashley

August 22, 1957 – November 7, 2019

Glenn Ross Ashley, 62, man of God and beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away Thursday, November 7th, 2019 in Katy, near his home in Richmond, Texas, surrounded by his loving family.

Glenn was born August 22nd, 1957 to the late Wade Currie Ashley and Carol Erle Cunningham Ashley. As a child, Glenn's family moved frequently with his father's position in the U.S. Air Force, living in several states and in Germany. They settled in Wichita Falls, Texas, where Glenn graduated from Burkburnett High School. He was actively involved in Boy Scouts and attained the rank of Eagle Scout. Glenn was a graduate of Texas A&M University, Class of 1979, with a degree in Nuclear Engineering. It was at his first job out of college in Chattanooga, TN that he met his best friend and love, Kathy.

Glenn married Kathryn Louise Schraeder on August 2nd, 1980. They were blessed with two daughters, Amanda and Erin. The family moved from Tennessee to Russellville, Arkansas, where they lived for 14 years, followed by a move to Las Vegas, Nevada for seven years before settling in Richmond, Texas.

Glenn was a passionate hobbyist and dove into every interest with dedication and excellence. His many interests included fly fishing, building fly rods, tying flies and framing decorative flies, golf, wine collecting, carpentry, and wood turning. He loved to share his interests with others, often giving his beautiful creations as prized gifts, as well as passing on his knowledge by mentoring friends and family.

Though Glenn enjoyed his work and many hobbies, his faith in Christ was his defining characteristic. Every decision was oriented around serving God. He was actively involved in church throughout his life, serving in many capacities. In recent years Glenn served on the Elder Advisory Council, and especially enjoyed working with the Splash Children's Ministry, at The Waters Church in Katy.

Glenn had a quiet, gentle, unassuming manner and a quick wit. He was unfailingly humble and loved his family deeply. His marriage to Kathy was a beautiful example of selfless love that has inspired all who know them. His beautiful life will forever be cherished in Kathy's life and in the lives of his daughters and sons-in-law: Amanda and Victor Pann of Hardy, AR and Erin and Adam Bortka of Port of Spain, Trinidad; grandchildren: Rhiannon Pann, Isaac and Charlie Bortka; brother and sister-in-law, Mike and Fran Ashley of Gilmer, TX; mother-in-law, Diane Schraeder of Rising Sun, IN; sisters- and brothers-in-law: Belinda and Mikel Murray of Rising Sun, IN, Tom and Marla Schraeder of Greeley, CO, Judy and David Riddell of Rising Sun, IN, and Betsy and Bill McNab of Crossville, TN; and a host of devoted nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, November 15, 2019 at the Schmidt Funeral Home Grand Parkway location in Katy. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 16, 2019 at the Aggie Field of Honor in College Station, Texas. A Celebration of Life will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 16, 2019 at The Waters Church in Katy.
