December 13, 1941 ~ November 3, 2019 (age 77)
Farewell to the “GrandDude”!
Lawrence “Larry” Cannon made his entrance into the world on 12/13/1941 in Coffeeville, Kansas, a mere 6 days after Pearl Harbor was bombed. His parents Lester and Adele Cannon (deceased) had to be asking themselves what kind of world they were bringing a baby into. Larry had two sisters Ina Rae (deceased) and Debbie who grew up with him in Corpus Christi, Texas where he moved when he was 3.
He met the love of his life Sue Essex while in high school in Corpus Christi, Texas. They have now been married for 57 years. Larry graduated from Texas A&M and was a die-hard Aggie fan. Gig’em Aggies! Larry and Sue were blessed with two children, Lori and Lance. Sue and Larry moved to Colorado Springs in 1972 and Larry spent his working years doing chemical sales. Larry loved the four seasons that Colorado offered and loved driving in the mountains during the changing of the aspens especially if it was on the way to the casinos up at Cripple Creek!
Lori eventually married Scott Whiting and adopted 9 kids Cassie, Joel, Ethan, Clairissa, Quinn, Seth, Andrew, Katie Sue and Tessa. He thought they were crazy as loons for having 9 kids! And Lance married Angie Rossman, and they had a daughter Amanda and adopted a son Bayly. That is when Larry’s most important role came together. He did not become a Grandpa, grandfather or Pops, but the GrandDude.
He loved his family fiercely and never met a stranger in his life. He loved serving his neighborhood by being on the homeowners association board and his community by donating more than 13 gallons of blood, volunteering at the hospitals, doing taxes for low income people, coaching little league and basketball, donating turkeys to charities and helping everyone he came in contact with. He absolutely loved good jokes and tirelessly shared hilarious anecdotes over the internet and with anyone who would listen. He also enjoyed his TV and his recliner. But he got the biggest kick out of getting a great deal! Whatever it was, free was best! He could make a penny scream. Larry was the quintessential wheeler-dealer and refurbished boats, homes, pinball machines, and cars and flipped them all for profit. He loved to make a buck.
Sadly, the love of our life, our Daddy, and our GrandDude lost his battle with a rare cancer on November 3rd, 2019, but joyously entered the arms of His Lord and is now enjoying his eternal reward. We miss him terribly, but we are looking forward to being together again!
