Heidi Jean Syvrud-Davenport
July 25, 1979 - October 21, 2019

Heidi Jean Syvrud Davenport was born on July 25, 1979, to Dr. Jim and Mary Syvrud. Dr. Jim delivered her at their home in Dallas, Texas. She was joyfully welcomed by her parents and older brother, Zachary. In 1981, the family moved to Rockwall, Texas. Heidi was joined in 1983, by her younger brother Josh, and in 1984, by her younger sister Mary Amy. She was her mother’s best helper entertaining the younger children. Within a short time, the swimming pool became all four of the kid’s favorite hangout.

In 1987, Paul and Jean Liechty, Mary’s parents, came to live with the family and were an enormous blessing assisting the growing clan. The children loved having their grandparents close and rapidly bonded with them. Sadly, in 1989, Grandpa Liechty died of cancer. Grandma, however, continued living with the family for the next 16 years and was adored by everyone. Grandma Jean now lives with her son, Dr. Paul Liechty, and wife Sherri. Heidi dearly loved grandma and emulated her in so many ways.

In 1985, Heidi began her formal education by attending Rockwall Christian School and continued there through the sixth grade. She went to public school for seventh grade and eventually graduated from Rockwall High School, in 1998. She was an excellent athlete and was a cheerleader during her years of middle school and high-school. At age 12, she modeled in New York City and was offered a summer job modeling in Atlanta, Georgia. When her father declined the offer because of her youth and her mother needing to be there with her, she shyly asked, “Since I can’t model, would you let me someday try to be Miss America?”. The answer was yes! She was a homecoming princess for her class as a freshman, sophomore, and junior years, and was elected to be the 1998 Homecoming Queen. She was exceptionally sweet and compassionate, and many times came home from school with tears in her eyes telling her parents about some student she met that “didn’t have nice clothes” or “needed shoes”, and would ask “can we please help them?”. So, we would get the parent’s permission and take the girl shopping and Heidi would lavish her love on her friend who would end up getting new outfits and accessories under Heidi’s direction. We marveled at our daughter’s compassion for the less fortunate.

Following high school, she enrolled at Texas A&M University, and four years later she graduated with a degree in communications and marketing. While at A&M, she maintained a 3.4 GPA and among other things served as an “Aggie Hostess”, for the A&M football team.

In 2002, she competed in the Miss Texas USA pageant and was the first runner-up among 125 contestants in the most competitive pageant in the nation. She was able to share her testimony of God’s love and grace on live TV to over eight million people.

In 2004, she married Sean Davenport and eventually had two beautiful and gifted sons, Jack James Davenport and Brooks Oliver Davenport. Jack and Brooks were her pride and joy.

On October 21, 2019, she passed away due to complications of bipolar condition that she had endured for the last twelve years of her life. She was dearly loved and cherished by her family and friends. She was a committed Christian, loved watching Christian TV, and supported many ministries.

She is survived by her two sons, Jack and Brooks; mother and father, Mary and Jim Syvrud of Heath, Texas; brother, Zachary Syvrud and wife Julie of Heath, Texas; brother, Joshua Syvrud, of Dallas, Texas; and sister, Mary Amy Syvrud, of Rockwall, Texas. In addition, she is survived by a loving family of nine aunts, eight uncles, thirty-two cousins, four nephews, and two nieces. Preceding her in death were her grandfathers, Paul Leichty and Peter Syvrud; grandmother, Mary Bradley Syvrud; and uncles, Phillip Syvrud and Ronald Crooks.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm Wednesday, October 30, 2019, at Reflections at Rest Haven Funeral Home-Rockwall Location. Interment will follow in Rest Haven Memorial Park. A gathering of friends and family will take place on Tuesday evening at the funeral home from 6:00 to 8:00 pm.
