Dr. Robert William Botard
AUGUST 22, 1939 – OCTOBER 2, 2019

Dr. Robert “Bob” William Botard (Col. RET) age 80, passed away October 2, 2019 in San Antonio, Texas. He was born August 22, 1939 to W.F. and Anna Botard. He was the youngest of four children. Bob was a native of Jim Wells County, born in the country seven miles south of Alice, Texas. He attended and graduated from Texas A&M University School of Veterinary Medicine in 1964, the same year that he entered the United States Army, in which he proudly served for 20 years.

Four years later, in 1968, Bob graduated from Kansas State University with a Masters Degree in Veterinary Public Health. This was the same year that he married the love of his life, Cynthia “Cindy” Botard, in San Antonio, Texas. Nine years later, Bob received a Masters Degree in Hospital Administration from Baylor University, while still serving in the military. The Army took Bob to several locations in his life: Japan, Belgium and Hawaii, to highlight a few. Bob remained in the military until he retired in 1984 when he opened his own veterinary hospital on the northeast side of San Antonio. Bob had a passion for science. One of his published papers was the first western scientific work to be requested by a Communist Bloc nation during the Cold War. However, science was not his only love. He loved all sports: golf; bowling; softball - having the fastest “Slow Pitch” in Hawaii when he lived there; but none of these sports could compare to his beloved Texas Aggies. There may have been more than one weekend that his mood would rise or fall dependant upon whether his Aggies won their football game. Yet, as much as he loved his Aggies, it was God and his family, and particularly his grandchildren, that he loved the most. His eyes never twinkled so brightly and his laugh never more easily flowed than when he was in their presence.

Bob is survived by his five grandchildren: Will, Luke, Dominic and Olivia Botard, and Robert Foster; his son Robert (Christina) Botard; his daughter Ashley (Stephen) Foster; and his loving wife, Cindy Botard.
