James Owen Watkins
April 26, 1950 - September 16, 2019

James Owen “Jim” Watkins passed away on Monday, September 16th, 2019, at his home in Tomball, TX. A native Texan, Jim was born on April 26th, 1950, in Corpus Christi, the son of Owen and Margaret Watkins. Jim was raised in Dickinson, TX with his sister Patricia Christensen of Salt Lake City, Utah. In Dickinson he met his first and still best friend, Morris Sadleir.

Jim attended Robert E. Lee High School in Tyler, TX, where he met his wife of forty-eight years, Greta Gregory Watkins. Every single day of their marriage, they set a perfect example for their children and grandchildren of a loving Christian marriage.

He was the proudest member of A-Battery, Fighting Texas Aggie Class of 1972, where he met his life-long buddies.

While his rewarding career in the oil industry was filled with adventures through deserts, jungles and the Arctic, nothing was more exciting and entertaining than the time he spent with his beloved family.

J.O./Jim/Dad/Grumpy truly lived his life as if every day was a holiday, every meal a banquet, and every walk a stroll.

He is preceded in death by his parents Owen Milton Watkins, Jr. and Margaret McFarland Watkins, and his brother-in-law Steve Christensen.

He is survived by his wife Greta Watkins, children Jennifer Blackmon and husband Keith, James Owen Watkins Jr. and wife Amy, Amanda Conger and husband Sam, grandchildren Robert, Paige, Bryan, and Molly Blackmon, James “Owen” Watkins III, Cadence, Wyatt, Carleigh, and Waylon Conger, sister Patricia Christensen, nephews Geoff Christensen and Jeremy Christensen, and Jeremy’s wife Ky and daughter Greta Louise, and brother-in-law Tom Gregory.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Texas A&M Corps of Cadets Scholarship Fund: https://www.txamfoundation.com/give.aspx?c_id=10
