Bob later specialized in industrial engineering and for most of his post-military career managed several manufacturing plants for Rockwell International. Bob was a devoted Catholic and member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church where he regularly attended services. He was also a huge baseball fan, always favoring the Chicago Cubs, and an avid golfer, playing with his friends several times a week at their home course at Timber Greens. Above all else, Bob loved his wife and children unconditionally.

Bob’s beloved wife, Helen, died in 2005. They had been married for over 50 years, having taken their vows in 1954 in Chico, CA. Bob is survived by three children; John Richard Carlson of New Port Richey, FL, Thomas Edwin Carlson of Tarpon Springs, FL (wife Maria Victoria), and Richard Francis Carlson of Oakton, VA (wife Nancy). Bob is also survived by seven grandchildren; Amy Kersting, Emily Carlson, Sam Carlson, Sheila Malamoutsis, Angela Tan, Helen Tan and Sarah Carlson, and three great grandchild; Ryan Loh, Paul Aiden Kersting and Justin Miller.
