Oscar Talmadge Goines, 90, was called home to his Lord on December 16, 2018, after a brief stay in Summer Place Nursing and Rehabilitation, Beaumont. Oscar was born September 26, 1928, to Nellie Iona Langford Goines and Oscar Vernon Goines, in Gilmer. He retired from Lamar University in 1994, after thirty-three years as a Physics professor.

Oscar was a dedicated family man who spent many years taking care of his wife and family including providing dialysis treatments for Imogene in the home for the last twenty-five years of her life here on earth. Oscar served in the United States Army during the Korean War at fort Riley, Kansas, where Julia was born. He was a master’s student at Texas A&M University at the time Lyle came into the world.

Oscar was a longtime Christian who greatly valued the word of God. He spent a good portion of his life dedicated to making the word available to everyone around the world through The Gideons International, serving as president of the local chapter, as well as other positions.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife, Imogene Comte Goines; sisters, Johnie Lee Caples and Mary Bell; and brother, Buren Goines.

Oscar is survived by his daughter, Julia Winger; son, Lyle Goines and his wife, Tammy; and granddaughter, Regina Winger, all of Beaumont; grandson, Micah Goines of Starkville, Mississippi; granddaughter, Hannah Goines Baldwin and her husband, Ben, of Beaumont; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was a longtime member of South Park Baptist Church and later joined Amelia Baptist to attend church with Lyle’s family.

A gathering of Mr. Goines’ family and friends will be from 4:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, December 19, 2018, at Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. His funeral service will be 10:00 a.m., Thursday, December 20, 2018, at Broussard’s, with his interment to follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Beaumont.
