Louis Carl Koym
August 12, 1941 - December 22, 2018
Louis Carl Koym, 77, passed away peacefully Saturday, December 22, 2018, at Knopp Nursing and Rehab Center under the care of Votive Hospice after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease.
Louis was born in Houston on August 12, 1941 to Raymond Grant Koym and Emma Minnie Hoffmann Koym who preceded him in death. He attended Schertz-Cibolo High School and graduated from Lajes Field High School in the Azores on Lajes Field Air Force Base. He was
a proud graduate of Texas A&M (University) College of Texas in 1963 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering.
He was a veteran and served in the U.S. Air Force stationed in Taiwan before working for Texas Instruments and then Elder Leasing Company in Houston until his retirement and went back to work for Red Line for a few more years.
With nicknames of LC, Louie, and Lou, he was a good man who could always bring a smile to others with his quick wit and love of life. Louie enjoyed hunting and fishing and loved his family and family events. He was especially proud of his son, Mat, and wife,
Sara and delighted to be a grandfather. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Houston.
Louis is survived by his son Matthew Carl Koym and his wife, Sara of Kingwood,Texas; brothers Dr. Lawrence “Larry” Koym, DVM of Mason, and Ret. Col. Charles Raymond Koym and wife Zala of Fredericksburg; granddaughters Paige and Lydia Koym of Kingwood; nieces
Carol Ebensberger of Boerne, Cathy McLeod of Round Rock, and Suzie Hailes of Fort Dauphin, Madagascar and numerous great nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family.
Arrangements are under the direction of Fredericksburg Funeral Home with the funeral service and graveside on Thursday, January 3rd at 10:45 am at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio with Rev. Neal Matthews officiating.
Special thanks to the staff and caregivers at Knopp #2, Knopp Assisted Living Center, Inc., Heritage Place and to Votive Hospice Care; FUMC visitors and his friends and family who visited him through the years, and to his brother, Charlie who truly was his
brothers keeper. Praise be to God!
