Rodger Wayne Kloppe
FEBRUARY 1, 1946 – MAY 9, 2019
Rodger Wayne Kloppe, 73, went to be with the Lord on May 9, 2019 in Houston, Texas. Rodger was born on February 1, 1946 in Houston to Fritz John and Dorothea Kloppe. He played football and ran track in high school, and attended Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas, where he was a member of the Corps of Cadets. After graduation Rodger worked as a Corrections Officer at the Huntsville State Prison until he became Manager of the Security Guard Force with Compaq Computer (now HP), which was the fastest growing company in the history of U.S. businesses at the time. Several years later Rodger was part of the management team at Barton Protective Services (later known as Allied Barton) and spent 13 years in California managing the Amgen account. Upon his retirement, he and his wife, Doreen, moved back to Texas In April of 2018.
Rodger was a cowboy at heart who loved his cowboy boots and hats. He was a big supporter of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, serving on the Safety Committee and volunteering hundreds of hours a year for 20+ years. Rodger was an avid fan of College sports and, naturally, rooted hard for his beloved Aggies. He also enjoyed boating, fishing, and long trips on his Harley.
Rodger was a religious man who never lost faith, even through his long, hard, courageous 13-year battle with cancer. During his most difficult and painful times he remained devoted to the Lord, and always managed a warm smile. He is survived by his loving wife of 29 years, Doreen Kloppe; sister, Janice Grabanski and her husband, Paul; sister-in-law Denise Bontempo; sister-in-law Deborah Gibbins and her husband, Richard; brother-in-law Don Jones and his wife, Veletta; numerous nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his Mother, Dorothea Kloppe; his Father, Fritz John Kloppe; and his brother, Fritzie Kloppe.
Services will be held on Friday, May 17, 2019, at 2:00 p.m. at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home Chapel located at 13001 Katy Freeway, Houston, Texas 77079. Short gravesite service immediately following.
