Helen Gail Pope Sewell
January 20, 1941 – May 9, 2019

Gail Sewell, 78, of Bryan, passed away May 9, 2019. Visitation will be at Callaway-Jones Funeral Home on Friday, May 17 from 6:30-8:00 p.m. with services on Saturday, May 18 at First United Methodist Church (FUMC) of Bryan at 10:00 a.m., followed by a celebration of life lunch at the church, and family graveside services at Smetana Cemetery at 1:00 p.m. Services are in the care of Callaway-Jones Funeral and Cremation Centers, Bryan-College Station.

Although born in Bryan, Gail spent her school-aged years in six mid-west states but came back to Texas to attend Texas Women’s University in Denton. After graduation, she was a social worker with the American Red Cross. She later moved ‘back home’ to Bryan where she obtained her teaching certificate, and eventually a Master’s in Education from TAMU, and held a 30-year career as a Texas and American History teacher for the Bryan Independent School District.

Her pastimes included: bird watching, reading, sewing, playing bridge for 40+ years with her special friends, attending and volunteering at FUMC, genealogy, and spoiling her granddaughters.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Clifton Arlyn and Helen Rose Kubin Pope, and her daughter Lorna Rhea Sewell Kessler (Rob).

Survivors include her daughter Rene’ Sewell Skaggs (Tom) and granddaughters Taylor and Avery of Washington state, her sister Glenda Duncan (Bill), nephew Nicholas, and great-niece Emma, all of Bryan.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Gail’s honor to the American Red Cross, FUMC, and Hospice of Brazos Valley.
