Harold Ray Stanford
October 16, 1953 - April 27, 2019

Harold Ray Stanford, 65, passed away with family at his side Saturday, April 27, 2019 in Round Rock, Texas. Visitation will be held at the Gabriels Funeral Chapel in Georgetown, Texas on Wednesday, May 1st from 6 to 8pm. Funeral services will be held at The Gabriels Funeral Chapel at 10am, Thursday, May 2nd followed by interment at the McLean Cemetery south of Rogers, Texas.

Harold was born on October 16, 1953 to Connie and Hulen Stanford.

Harold was preceded in death by his parents, Connie and Hulen Stanford and his wife Pearl King Stanford. Harold is survived by his brother Gordon Stanford and wife Donna of East Bend, North Carolina, sisters Debra Schuetz of Jarrell, Texas and Vanessa Stanford of Euless, Texas, six nieces and nephews, and eight great nieces and nephews. Harold is also survived by step-daughter Lynn Purkey Hall of Round Rock, Texas, step-son Clarence Purkey of Pensacola, Florida, five step-grandchildren, and ten step-great-grandchildren.

Harold lived the majority of his life in Jarrell starting first grade at Jarrell Elementary and graduating from Jarrell High School. Harold chose to further his education at Texas A&M University where he received a Bachelor’s Degree in Agricultural Economics.

Harold worked for HEB grocery store in Georgetown for many years, starting in high school, continuing on weekends during college, and then working full-time after college as part of the management team. Harold was well liked and respected by not only the employees he supervised but customers as well. He had many anecdotes of customers who would say “where’s Harold” he can find it, fix it, or make it right in one way or another. He left HEB with the title of assistant store director. Harold went on to work for Texas Health and Human Services Commission where he retired as a supervisor in the Round Rock office.

Harold’s biggest joys in life were his family and the farmland he not only grew up on but continued to live on practically his entire life. Harold truly enjoyed working the land and livestock of the farm. Harold also enjoyed country dancing, league bowling, and playing cards or dominoes “42” with family and friends. Harold had no children of his own but deeply loved spending time with his nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and his step-grandchildren.

Harold was a 25-year cancer survivor. His other illnesses were a battle he continued to fight even while being the primary care giver of his wife. Harold played the hand he was dealt with courage and dignity. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
