Garland Clifford Wright
November 20, 1941 - April 17, 2019
Garland Clifford Wright, age 77, of Tyler passed away peacefully, surrounded by friends and family on the afternoon of Wednesday, April 17th.
Born to the late Clifford and Gloria Wright, on November 20th, 1941 in Port Arthur, Texas Garland was raised with a respect and love of the outdoors that would continue to be a passion for him his entire life. After graduation from Port Arthur High School he continued his education at Texas A&M University earning a degree in Architecture in 1964.
HIs early career was spent practicing architecture in Dallas Texas, then moving to Tyler in 1970. In 1974, he partnered with Carroll Sinclair to create Sinclair & Wright Architects specializing in commercial, government, educational, and religious projects in Texas, Oklahoma, and Louisiana. While he enjoyed a successful career, he felt it was important to give back to the community. He was active in the Lions Club, Explorer Scouts, and Boys and Girls Club of America.
He is survived by his wife, Judy Wright; son and daughter-in-law, Craig and Betty Jo Wright; three brothers, Lyndon, Merwyn, and Ed Wright; two grandchildren Brendan and Ethan Wright.
The family will receive friends at Jackson's Burks Walker Tippit Funeral Home on Monday, April 22nd, 2019 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Services for Garland are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 23rd, 2019 in the Jackson's Burks-Walker-Tippit Chapel with Dr. Gary Bowman and the Rev. Milton Woodall officiating. Interment will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery.
