Jennifer Lynne Faltys, 47, loving wife, mother and daughter, passed away peacefully at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center in Grapevine during the early morning hours of Monday, January 7, 2019.
Born on December 9 in Little Rock, Arkansas, Jen spent most of her life in Texas. She moved to Southlake with her family in 2006 where she actively participated with her kids in National Charity League and Young Men’s Service League, and was a member of White’s Chapel United Methodist Church. An avid tennis player, Jen’s true passion was being a mom and faithful friend to others. She devoted her time to supporting the kids through dance, school work, sports and other activities. They often traveled as a family to Rosemary Beach, creating a lifetime of laughter and fond memories. She was strong in her faith and firm in her convictions, leaving a legacy of love for her four children.
Jen was an inspiration to so many people, but especially to those fighting cancer. She endured treatments and procedures with an amazing strength and resiliency, often cheering others up and giving them a dose of her personal life coaching or advice. For Jen, time in the hospital just meant an opportunity to befriend her caregivers and build strong relationships. Through the years she developed a deep bond with her nurses and doctors at Baylor Scott. She eventually defied all odds by becoming one of the longest-living Stage 4 breast cancer patients in the United States. To those who knew her story, she was nothing short of remarkable.
Jen was strong and brave, but more than anything, to her children, she was love - a team player on everyone’s team, but especially supporting and rooting for her kids. She loved Jesus immensely and shared her faith with anyone she could. Jen believed and counted on the promises of God revealed in her favorite verse, Isaiah 40:31 – “Those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength.”
Jen had a stubborn determination about her and it was that strength of character and her hope in Christ that helped her overcome years of treatments and diagnoses so that she could spend as much time with her children as possible. She literally willed herself to stay alive so that she could faithfully serve as a light for her family, friends and those in which she came into contact.
Jen spent the last several weeks contacting people who were important to her, so that she could tell them how she felt about them and have the opportunity to say goodbye. She spent many hours laughing, crying and loving the special people in her life. At 3:30 a.m. Monday, she received the gift of eternal life and will someday be reunited with family and friends. This gave her a peace and hope that surpassed all understanding. She was a friend to many, loved deeply by her family and cherished by her sweet dog, Charlie.
Survivors include her husband, David; son, David Quaid; daughter, Peyton McKenna; son, Kenton; and daughter, Lauren. She is also survived by her mother, Toni Winters-Kethan and her father, Joe Kethan of San Antonio; brother, Aaron Winters and wife, Cheryl, of Allen and nieces Bryce and Claire; brother, John Winters of San Antonio; sister, Maureen Pompa and her husband, Charles, of San Antonio; brother Daryl Binford and wife, Cathy, of Dry Creek, Louisiana and nieces and nephews, Beau, Cara, Amber, Ben, Emma and Misty. She was preceded in death by her father Stanley Winters and brother David Brown.
A Celebration of Life for Jen Faltys will be held at White’s Chapel United Methodist Church at 1 p.m. on Saturday, January 12, 2019. A reception with light refreshments will follow immediately after the service in Evans Hall at the church. There will be no graveside interment; instead, a private memorial ceremony will be held at WCUMC at a later date for the family.
