George Nancarrow(1923 - 2019)
NANCARROW, George Warren George Nancarrow died at his home in Dallas on 2/25/2019. He was born in Texarkana, Texas on 8/10/1923 to Frank and Christine Nancarrow and graduated from Dormont high school in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He attended Texas A&M, graduating with a Petroleum Engineering degree, class of 1944 and served in WWII in Europe. Following Germany's surrender in April, 1945, George volunteered to serve in the Pacific Theater and was on a boat bound for there when the war finally ended. George retired from the Army Reserves as a Lieutenant Colonel. George married the former Hilda Harkness in 1947 and began a career as a Reservoir Engineer, working internationally in Europe, The Middle East, South America, Australia and other locales. He retired in 1990 as Chairman of Degolyer & MacNaughton, an international consulting firm and also served on the boards of numerous banking, energy and other companies. George loved traveling with his family, playing golf and was loyal throughout life to Texas A&M University and its athletic programs. He endowed an engineering scholarship at A&M and gave generously to other programs at the school. He was a lifelong season ticket holder and traveled the country watching the A&M football team at away games. George spent many years working in Madrid, Spain where his sons were born and his daughters initially educated and he loved taking trips back there with the entire family later in life. He also traveled with Hilda and his children to many other countries. He valued education highly and encouraged all four of his children to pursue college and graduate degrees which they did with his enormous help and support. He was a proud father, a loyal husband and friend and a kind soul. He loved life and people and was deeply loved by all who knew him. George was predeceased by his wife, Hilda, in 2013 and is survived by their four children; daughters Margie and Mindy Nancarrow and their respective husbands, Steve Roberts and Jose Cano, and by his sons, Mark and Matthew Nancarrow and their wives Lissy and Veronica, respectively. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Cristy Smith as well as Jason, Sam and Christian Nancarrow and by his great grandchildren, Ty and Emma Smith. George was a long time member of Northway Christian Church in Dallas where he served as a deacon and in other roles. The family will have a small private ceremony and George will be entombed at Sparkman Hillcrest in Dallas. In lieu of flowers or other memorials the family asks that donations be made to the SPCA of Texas or another charity.
