Howard G. McMillan
November 25, 1927 - January 22, 2019

Howard G. McMillan, 91, of Hallettsville passed away peacefully, Tuesday, January 22, 2019. Howard was born November 25, 1927, in Weimar, Texas to Ross Gray McMillan and Laura Gretchen (Nolkamper) McMillan. Raised in Weimar, and after graduating from high school, Mac attended Texas A&M University and graduated with a degree in Agriculture Economics, while serving in the corps of cadets.

While at A&M, Mac met the love of his life, Betty Jean Kahanek of Hallettsville and they married on August 19, 1951, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Mac was commissioned as a First Lieutenant, in the United States Army and served in the Korean Conflict. After his return, Betty and Mac lived in San Antonio until returning to Hallettsville in 1964.

Mac went to work for the First National Bank where he remained until his retirement in 1986.

He had many hobbies. His love for dominoes, playing golf, and his beloved Texas Aggies and going to his beach house in Rockport where he could fish and relax and entertain friends and family.

Mac was a member of the Knights of Columbus and received his 50 year membership pin this year. He was a past president of the Rotary Club, Hallettsville Golf Association and he also served as President of the Hallettsville School Board. He was a member of the VFW and Hallettsville Fire Department.

Mac truly enjoyed life and all the many wonderful friends he made throughout his lifetime. But most of all he loved his family and was a dedicated husband, father, and grandfather. He will be missed.

He is survived by twin daughters, Kay Manning and Gay O’Neill, grandchildren, Casey O’Neill, Garett Manning and Clayton O’Neill and wife, Noelle, and one great-grandson, Ty; Two nephews, Leon Kahanek, III and Robert Kahanek of Hallettsville.

The family would like to thank the kind and wonderful care given our dad at LMC and Hallettsville Rehabilitation and the wonderful nurses and doctors at Citizen Hospital in Victoria.

A special thank you to Helene Williams who cared for our dad and was a dear friend to him.

Funeral Mass Service: 12 (noon), Thursday, Jan. 31, 2019, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Hallettsville; with Visitation starting at 10 am, and the Rosary starting at 11:30 am. Pallbearers: Garett Manning, Clayton O’Neill, Richmond O’Neill, Leon L. Kahanek III, Robert Kahanek, and Joey Henke. Honorary Pallbearers: His domino friends at the Hallettsville Golf Association. Officiant: Msgr. John Peters. Memorials: Sacred Heart Catholic Church/School or donor’s choice. Burial: Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery.
