Anthony, Dr. Teddy "Ted" F.

1939 - 2019

Dr. Ted F Anthony passed on January 23, 2019 in College Station, TX. He was surrounded by family and friends who visited throughout his final days. Ted was born February 14, 1939 in Little Rock, Aranksas. Ted was raised in Dallas, TX and graduated from Skyline High School. Throughout his school and professional years Ted lived in Athens, GA and Boulder, CO although his true home was College Station where he spent the majority of his years and raised his family.

His wife of over 53 years, Marguerite Anthony, son Brendon Anthony and wife Kelly, son Kyle Anthony and granddaughter Anderson Rose Anthony survive him.

Dr. Anthony was a long tenured faculty member at Texas A&M University where he served as a professor of statistics in the Mays Business School. He was a respected instructor and teacher and became a lifelong friend to many graduate students with whom he became close over the years. His office and home were always open to those seeking additional assistance or advice and he went out of his way to make learning a fun and collaborative experience.

Ted had an extremely curious mind and was a lover of all things technical. His shop at home and his office at Texas A&M were places to experiment and to learn about theories and practical applications. Nothing gave him more joy than explaining a complex scientific theory to a student (or son) who might be visiting his office, or striving to construct the perfect soap box derby racer. He worked to perfect his painting skills, modeled extensively, tinkered with his beloved Porsche 356, rebuilt car engines, upgraded computers, conducted experiments for every conceivable type of science project, and labored intensively on school projects with his sons. In addition, he had a deep love of sailing and took every opportunity to share this love with friends and family. He was interested in and read extensively on history, philosophy, mathematics and would never miss a teaching or conversation opportunity if one presented itself. He was always learning or sharing knowledge. Ted received his undergraduate degree in Business Administration from North Texas University; a Master of Mathematics from Texas A&M University; a Doctorate in Management and Information Sciences from The University of Colorado at Boulder and completed his dissertation at University of Georgia while teaching there.

Friends will remember Ted as a lover of social gatherings built around food, music, and great old friends. He was well known to find humor in nearly all situations and could always be counted on for the right joke at the right time. Ted was a long standing member of the Lions Club and loved to give back to his community while working alongside old friends.

He was intensely proud of his sons Brendon and Kyle and was an active supporter of their interests both growing up and into adulthood. He was not afraid to offer advice and guidance but did not discourage career paths that were very different than his own. He was a devoted husband to Marguerite, and a deeply loving grandfather to Anderson Rose.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, February 23rd at 2pm at his College Station home. Friends and family are welcome. Donations in his name may be made to Hospice Brazos Valley.
